so the trucks i have been looking at are standard cab. I have been wondering, where will i put a sub other then crappy 6.5in Bazooka Tubes, and not run a very pricey bill?

In my old first gen I ran a box I built with 2 10s and only lost the very last click in the seat adjustment with a bench seat. Box was built to specs and sounded pretty good. Being 6'2 I couldn't take it so I wound up selling the speakers to my brother and rode with the factory setup until I could get something I fit in better.

i was going to get tube woofers, because i am 6'6 lol but in my current truck i drive with my seat closer to the steering wheel then most people my size

They make shallow mount subs that hit pretty decent. JL Audio and Rockford make them. Pioneer and some other lower end brands make them too.

Im not sure about JL, but Rockford shallow mounts are about $125 each.

Heres the Rockford. This one is a 10". This is actually mine. Im installing 2 of these and im building the box for it as I type this.

hm, i kind of like the idea for the 1 12in sub ported box, more then the take up all of the space behind the seat box. does anyone know if they make a stealthbox for the s10s kind of like the one for the 99-01 dodge rams(center seat of the front bench)
it really helps protect the sub, and nice location haha. both my dad and brother had 1

JL has a stealthbox sorta thing, but you mentioned you wanted something that wasn't pricey.
I have one of their ported 8's in my other truck.
JL has shallow woofers too, so does Kicker and Boston. Why not build your own box?

i have never built a box before, and i wouldnt know what type of material to use

MTX used to make one of their boxes and I think JL did also. For 94-up years.
The MTX boxes were made of a blow-moulded plastic. If you want a little bass and improvement over a Bazooka-style enclosure, they are ok. But with alot of power and you want alot of output, they come up short. Have a bit of a vibration issue. The lack of dense-ness also makes for not so great SQ. MDF is the only way to go IMO.
I have a box that I had made for a Rockford HE 12" and later made a spacer to accomodate a Rockford HE2 12". Sat the sub behind the drivers seat. Ported.
I currently have a 12" ported box which starts on the pass side (removed the jack assy) and extends just barely behind the drivers seat. I had an older RF HE2 12" in there, then a Memphis M1 12" and now I am trying out a new BassInferno 12" sub.

Building a custom ported box for behind the seat of a reg cab truck is a little tight. Ported boxes have to be bigger than a sealed box. Finding a sub that requires a small amount of airspace in a ported application is hard to find. My current box is approx 1.56 cu.ft. To get that and remain reasonable seating position, I used 3/4 MDF on the front, 1/2 MDF on the top/bottom/sides and fiberglassed the entire back.
The BassInferno needs 1.54 cu.ft.
Subtracting the volume that the port takes up and the volume that the sub itself takes up, I am at about 1.2 something cu.ft. Which is smaller than optimum for that sub. Still within the range allowable tho.
Now If I made the box to go all the way across the back of the cab and put my amp under the seat, I would more than meet the requirement for the sub in a ported box. Thus I could do a 4" port instead of the 3" I now have. I would also be at the range of optimum SPL area 1.74 ft.cu. for that sub. In which I would hit the lower notes cleaner. Which now it doesnt hit the real lows cleanly.

Boston doesnt make a shallow sub, however their G1 subs are pretty shallow compared to most. The G1-12" is 5" mounting depth. Comparatively to other brands in the same price/power/size range, they are on the shallow side.

The JL and Memphis shallows are very good sounding, but they are pricey. The Memphis SC shallow is based on the power range of their mid-line M3 (now C3 model) and structure as well. They are around $250 price range. Need 500w RMS.

Ive heard the Infinity shallow mount subs in a half dozen enclosures.....dont waste your money cause they suck.
Ive heard one Kicker shallow and wasnt impressed. But would like to hear it in a few more enclosures before I bash it.

Pioneer shallow subs are decent but again a bit pricey.

I've decided that if componets don't give enough bass for me fvck it, I gotta have leg room!

i built my own box for my reg cab 1st gen. one trip to lowes and an afternoon with my bud we had it done then carpeted and installed the next day. came out perfect but just took it out yesterday. 5 speed and no leg room dont mix ha. i will take pics if you guys are interested.
