you should expect to spend anywhere from $1000 - $2000 depending on your fab skills and resources. if you stick with the junkyards, swaps stay relatively cheap
your first investement in a swap should be the JTR swap manual. all your future questions are answered in there

That book is junk and you have better resources online from people that have done it.
www.v8s10.org is a good place to start

ive never had good luck trying to follow other people's ideas. the book has everything you need to know about a basic swap, what makes it junk? its absolutely more accurate than anything anybody says on the internet

Im not trying to bust your balls, but "A few questions" for a title doesn't help people that are searching for information. I am not picking on you but titles like this with no specifics have been posted several times and people still do it.
Thanks

For starters its nothing but a catalog for their products which some happen to be GM parts with a price increase. Second it has a ton of wrong info in it. I've seen the book after I've done 3 swaps and its not worth using to soak up oil spills for the price they want. If you can find a copy for a couple of bucks its a nice read on the john but thats about it.

x2.. from someone who's done the swap. Almost everything was the complete opposite of being correct, for my swap.

for $99.00 you can get the mounts for the engine that will bolt right on the 2.8 perchs, then you have to deal with exhaust manifolds or headers,
make sure the trans is a 700r4 or a short tail 350 and you will not have to worry about a drive shaft. you can get away with a 4.3 radiator but will have to go with 2 11inch electric fans.......graigs list, junkyards and ebay
cando this job for under $700.00....

A lot of the price to do it is gonna depend entirely on what he is able to do himself, the price he can get parts for, and how resourceful he can be.
If you have the means to cut and weld I have a set of mount adapters made to use headman headers and the stronger 2.8 mounts. Pretty sure on www.v8s10.org there is a thread with templates of 2.8 to v8, the crappy 4.3 to v8, and even a plate to use small GM v8 mounts.
