So I am planning on a 3.4 swap (not the crate motor, the camaro one) I want to run a 2bbl and use my stock 5 speed. Ive heard that other people have had trouble running a manual due to the lack of a clutch boss on the 3.4 block...? My truck already has a hyraulic clutch so i dont think this would affect me..or am i wrong?
And for the flywheel...i need an internaly balanced flywheel off a newer 2.8? or what?
I plan on finding a decent long block here in the next little while, then ill get my uncle to build it up for me bulletproof. Ill put the edelbrock intake and headers on probly
Any other info involving a 3.4/5spd carb swap would be great. Thanks
Brian
i never really payed much attension to the 90* engines, but gm highperfomance book says the crate will work with the hydro clutch so I assume the camero donor will.
if you getting the engine go ahead and grab the tranny too. An auto conversion is super easy all you need is the lockup kit for the tranny( a toggle swith wired from the solenoid to ground)

nah, keep the manual dude!
Yes, you need a neutral balance flywheel.....also buy a brand new harmonic balancer, and make sure it is neutral too. Those little rubber things in them wear out so it is always the safest thing to do when redoing an engine.
i never really payed much attension to the 90* engines,
It is a 60* motor. The 90 is the 4.3
sorry...... you try working a 73 hour(gotta pay for my new toy)
I've got a 2.8 out of an old donor s-10 in the shed and the casting numbers say it's a car engine. It dosn't have the boss and truck was a standered. So the answer is yes it will work.

Ya its staying a 5/speed
Thanks for all the info, and keep it comming if you got it!!
I'm a bigger fan of the mpfi, it isn't that difficult if you get all the accessories, ecm, tranny etc from the camaro. accept for the intake, a/c and the locking converter electronic tranny it wasn't that bad. we ended up putting r134a compressor in it with new ac instead the old piece.
anyways i went from an 84' 2bbl 2.8 to an 85 2.8 block with mpfi from an 86 camaro, got some KILLER GAS MILEAGE, 28-30mpg.
