View Full Version : Control arm question
I wanna put bags on my truck when the money is right but I was wondering. Do you need new control arms? Like the tubular ones. Should I just get them now for my 2/3 drop or are they even necessary?
it depends on the type of air ride system(air shock or "air bag")
most of the air shock systems on direct bolt-ons that use the factory lowers. I have been told that some of the bag makers are going to direct boltons as well, but i havn'e installed any that didn't require either modifiing the lower are replasing it with an aftermarket lower. A good complete kit will come with everything.
I would replase it either way if you plan on an active drop. Go with the fully adjustable tubular lowers you woun't regret doing it right the first time.
layitlow will come along any time now and put up a list of links for you to browse trough.
I only wanna do it right the first time. I figure spend the money and not have any problems vs spend very little and get ****ty equipment that I will have to replace. Screw that I always want the best of the best in context. Sometimes some **** is way over priced. I wanna bag it with air bags not shocks. I kinda wanna replace the control arms because the tubular ones I see in mags look really good.

Have you taken a look at Air Ride Technologies' lower control arms? They look real light and compact. go to www.ridetech.com (http://www.ridetech.com) and click on the online catalog link on the side.

all depends on what size rime/tire your going to go with. if you are using 17s down, then control arms are not needed. 18s and 20s is when control arms need attention. for 17s you'll be fine with drop spindles and some bag cups from www.suicidedoors.com
for the larger rims, you can use stock control arms but youll have to do some cutting and rewelding to change the angle of the balljoint. i can get you specs if you wanna go this route. its not easy but doable. or you can go with a set of control arms from either air ride technologies as stepside linked above or a new company out called byc customs who seems to have better quality arms.
thats a basic rundown, just give me more info on how you wanna do this and i can help you further
I wanna roll a set of 18s and as far as the doable part my next door neighbor owns and operates his own suspension shop and he said hed help me along the way for free labor... well beer for him on me. So I just wanna get it right the first time cuz I actaully wanna drive my truck this summer as opposed to having it in the shop for hacking **** up and messing it all up and having to do it right the second time instead of wasting time and doing a half ass hack job.
