Sent my block and rotating assy in to get it done. Just got a call from the machine shop telling me my crank has cracks. Which leads me to my question. Does anyone know if the early 4.3 cranks are different than the 96 and newer?

Yes. Engines that were installed in '96 or later had a reluctor wheel installed in front of the crank gear for a crank position sensor that was a part of OBD II. The raised, machined area on the snout is about .100" longer on these cranks than it was on the earlier ones so the reluctor wheel has a slight press fit.

OK, That sounds right now that you mention it. None of the close salvage yards have any 96 or newer. Claim all that they have were froze up by the crap they had to put in them under the "cash for clunkers" thing. But found one about 2 hours away. $150 for the short block. Said they'd pull the caps to check for spun bearings and let me know if it's bad to save me the trip. Thought that was pretty nice.
Can't wait to get it to the machine shop. It's getting too close to nice weather. Want to have it back together so I can start tuning it as soon as it gets nice out.
