I recently installed a Bi-Xenon 6000k HID Kit from HID-extra.com.

I am currently speaking with the customer service rep to get the issue resolved, but I wanted to see if anyone else had any experience with this problem.

I installed the HID's and everything worked great. The kit came with a relay so they ARE powered from my battery and not the headlight switch.

I noticed that when I turned on my headlights, my drivers side bulb dimmed a bit instantly. It was still bright but appeared a little dimmer than the passenger side bulb.

When I came home today, the drivers side bulb did not come on the first 2 or 3 times I turned the lights on (and there was a buzzing noise coming from the ballast).

Finally both lights came on (the buzzing got quieter but both balasts have a slight noise coming from them when the lights are on) but now it appears as if both lights dim instantly after they are turned on.

Anyone ever experience this?
Is it normal for the ballasts to have a sound coming from them?
Is it normal for HID's to dim right after they come on?

I deal with the HID setup's on occasion i would probably preform a voltage drop test. Turn headlamps on and check from batt + to ground. Wtite down reading. Then go from your wire were it goes in the relay and at + to ground, write it down should be the same as B+. Then check it on the relay out wire going to the ballast, Check the ballast B+ to ground, should also read B+ if not you may want to check the relay for poor contacts high resistance. If all good check your grounds for poor contacts and connections. If it is all good might be the ballast. This may help hope you figure it out.

Your relay should be the same as all others i have seen.

Pin 30 From battery + fused.
Pin 87 To your load (to the ballast).
Pin 86 Either switched power or B+ (You should have switched power)
Pin 85 Either Ground or Switched ground (You should have straight ground)

Yes its common to get noise from the ballast. However a loud noise inducates a problem.
The relay kit....is there one ground and one power input and two outs? Most relay kits only use one OEM headlamp plug to give it signal. But Ive seen others that have two input plugs and two relays

Thanks for the info. I am no electrician but I will see what I can do. This stuff is confusing. Not sure what the Pin stuff is you are referring to

I think my driver's ballast is bad (hence the noise being loud for a second when the light wasn't on) Now both ballasts are pretty quiet when both lights are on.

The Relay Kit has one ground, one goes to the + side of the battery, one goes to the passenger OEM headlight plug, and I think thats it. (EDIT: there may be another wire that goes to the passenger side ballast)

So does anyone have experience with HID's coming on and dimming instantly? They are still very bright but initially when they come on the are much brighter and flash dim within an instant.

Oh sorry bud, Look on the relay it should have numbers on the bottom or a diagram on it.

I will. Thanks.

Any other suggestions for the bulbs dimming instantly after they switch on?

Most HIDs will come on and not look as bright or the wrong color temp at first. They 'warm up' and brighten. Not the opposite

Thats what I thought. It is wierd. When they come on the flash very bright and then 1-2 seconds later they dim to running brightness. I'm sure they warm up after that but the flash is what has me concerned

The flash isnt a big deal. All depends on the ballast. Some Ive dealt with flash and others dont.

I don't know much about HID's, but if you could get video of what's happening, that might help.

I will get one up tonight.

For some reason I can't get s10planet on my home computer, only at work.

Any ideas??

I have lots of ideas... but lets try to narrow it down. What happens when you try to get s10planet at home?

It just started recently when I was out of town. I thought the planet was gone for good. If I try and connect from home, first it searches and then goes to google search where s10planet.com is the first link.

When I click on that......it says connection can not be made and I need to diagnose my connection.

I have checked my security levels, trusted sites, banned sites, etc. and nothing.

I have been getting on s10planet @ home for over a year and all of a sudden it stopped working!

:hypnotizeUPDATE: video of HID's tonight!:hypnotize

Are you using Internet explorer or Firefox? Which ever you're using, try the other to see if it's affected, too. If you don't have firefox, get it from www.firefox.com -- if you need more explanation on that, let me know.

If you're on high speed, try unplugging the power from your modem and router, then plug them back in.

If all that doesn't work...
Hold down the windows key on your keyboard and push the 'R' key. this brings up the run dialog box. Type in 'cmd' and push 'ok'. This brings an old school DOS window. type in 'ipconfig/flushdns' and push enter -- you type that in right at the command prompt.

If you need more help, or that doesn't work, let me know.

I'll try all that. Thanks!

Haven't been able to try and get on the planet on home yet. I will tonight.

UPDATE: I switched my headlights last night and now the passenger side doesn't come on all the time.

I'm guessing its a problem with the bulb. That rules out the ballast as the culprit.

I'll let you guys know how willing there customer service is to replace an HID bulb for free!

By the way, I highly recommend HIDextra.com Bixenon HID kits at the moment. Haven't got a change to use my high beams yet but I haven't needed them. Low H4 HID's are bright as ****!
