I've been trying to figure out a way to get everyone together on a chat room so....

I've been playing with mirc (http://www.mirc.com/) knowing that this is what the sic chat room uses only the foum use in a scaled down VB down version. I have at late been able to acces our chat room with mirc and a script I use for mirc called anaconda (http://mirc.net/projects.php?go=1061135617&get_desc=1). It has things an like mp3 players, skins and outher goodys the regular mirc dosn't and it's simple to use. This solve 2 problems strait off, if you've tryed to use the chat link you already know if you can get it to work it lags pretty bad. and not every has the same messenger but the forum does and I bet aurthur has to pay for the room(if you know how to use irc it accomodates all messengers and dose some cool ****, but i'm not going to get into that) plus if the site goes down everyone doesn't get booted and not everyone has to be on this site sucking up the bandwidth to chat in the sic forum

first off you need to download MIRC 6.16 (http://www.mirc.co.uk/) and install it. It's self extracting so you do is point and click then follow the instuctions. open up the programe and go to tools at the top menu bar then options in the popup. This will give you anoughter popup with a short regitration form. type in your name and nick and email and then click server in the tree on the left side of the popup. fill out the form like so.....
desription : sicgmtrucks
irc server: niven.freenode.net
ports: this is automatic so leave it alone
groups: forums
leave the password blank

hit ok then connect to server. Your setup for the next logon

a screen with a bunch a jiberish comes up ....checking host......yadda yadda....local host so and so....and stops just like the sic chat window. Your connected. now go to the tool bar and see a folder icon with an # in the icon.Click that and type ( #sicgmtrucks ) in the bar and hit enter it should bring you to the sic chat room.
you woun't have to go through all this next time you open the progam cause you already setup.
I'm not going to go through the whole addon and script thing, but you can hot up this (http://mirc.net/) web site and get it all exsplained
some people will hide in the cornor and do evil things

irc is very simple to use if you take a little bit of time to get familiar with it. yes, it's intimidating at first, and very bland. a few simple changes of color (of text), some re-arranging of menus and taskbars, and you're set up. If I had a simple way to send files from where I'm at, I'd send out my mIRC script, all settings intact; I have mine set up very user friendly.

After a bit of use, along with www.packetnews.com, you'll have pretty much any kind of music/video/files you could ever ask for at your disposal. As with anything on the 'net, prudence and awareness is needed. There are people everwhere on the 'net that want to mess up your computer, and IRC is no exception. If you don't know what it is, don't open it or accept it.

Reading the MIRC website will help you out alot. Thats where I started too.

Really, it's something you should look into if you're bored, even if it's not for the forum chat.

And it's a good excuse for the wife, when you're downloading "stuff", you can say you're chatting about trucks! how good is that!

others cant hear it unless they are running a script to get the mp3 from you as its played, or they have the mp3 set up and named EXACTLY the way you have it. its basically to show what you're listening to.
