Check this... I work with a guy that has a Sunfire and his factory head unit does the whole stay on after you turn it off for a while until you open the door and such.... BUT... He put in an aftermarket unit and now has lost this feature. What does he need to do to fix this? I'm thinking another harness.

yup, it is the harness that is causing it

what year? is it rds? are his chimes still active? has he lost his oil gauge yet? dose his comp reset every time he startes the car? does his battery go dead if it sits for a couple of days without cranking it?

You can go to http://www.pac-audio.com/products/class2.htm and get the chime module or what ever that year calls for to correct any issues.

GMs with the rds class II heads can possibly cause damage to your comp if removed with them without installing one of the module things..

sounds to me like the harness, not a RDS problem. thats all done with the power from the truck, not any special feature.

It's is a wiring problem ,but it's not as simple as a harness. check the site above.

I have this feature in my truck. Did he hard wire the harness or did he plig it into the factory pigtail?
If he used the harness that came w/ the stereo and the harness that plugs into the factory one ,then check the wiring for the door sensors . If he hard wired it then it might of bypassed that feature.

Not for sure how he done it exactly. I'm going to look at it tomorrow night for him. He told me today that it is a 2000 or 2001

I don't think it says that, that means it is your everyday head unit installation, no extra things I need to put on it, right?

correct, though take a picture of it, we'll tell you. i do reccomend you buy the wiring hanrnesses to just adapt if your installing a HU. i know ive done it by splicing and by buying harnesses, so much easier to buy the harness, drops the install from like 1hr to 10 minutes. i dont know if this is your 1st install or not, but post up if you need any help with it

I gotta get a digital camera, much easier than having to go through a disposable camera and scanning all the pictures. I took a good look at the deck, and it doesn't look like it says rds on it anywhere. This will be my first install, so it might take longer than it would otherwise.

2001 Extended cab S-10 stepside 2.2L I4 (not much, I know, but it gets AWESOME gas mileage) carbon fiber euro taillights, clear lenses

2001 should have the rds. here's the email they sent me. i should be getting my chime module in the mail in a couple of days and i'll do a write up.
You can use the C2R-GM24 this will retain a healthy data system and won’t cause any warning lights to appear on the dash. This unit will also retain the warning chimes; the only thing is that you will not be able to reset the oil gauge with the aftermarket radio. Look in the owners manual and there should be direction on how to reset it manually.

Thank you,

I know how you all feel I was thinking of installing a aftermarket unit in my TA.But it's a Monsoon system and from what I can tell is more trouble than it's worth. The system sounds just awesome but I would love to play MP3's and have a few extra features. But I guess I will just have to deal with what I got.

you could get an IPOD. they just came out with an FM modulator, so you dont even have to hard wire it

the monsoon systems or awsome. If it comedown to not being able to go trough the rca jacks. I may have an answer for you. You'll have to check the application guide. PAC isn't the only ones who make these, but I really like the customer service and so far I haven't had any problems with them.

I got a FM modulator for my tv. It plugs in between the antenna wire. I got it from best buy for 30.

I looked on their sight and it's not compatible for mine I think. It would be cool as hell to control my IPOD with my steering wheel controls.Im gonna email them and see what they offer for Monsoon systems.

soon as I get my hands on another camera, I'll get a picture onto this thread. Ok, gave up on looking for cameras around my house, and I looked on ebay and found the same stereo I have now. Does this have RDS? And yes, I know, I quoted myself!
