me and a friend are going to pick up a 99 trans am in maryland/delaware area and drive it back to nw indiana. we are going to be on the highway almost the whole way. even thou the ls1 requires premium, woulod it be okay to fill up with the cheap stuff for the drive. i dont see any reason why not as long as we keep our feet out if it.
thanx!!!

it's says use premium because of the 10:1 compression. the ls1's actually get some good gas milage. you could probly get away with the cheap stuff, but will find out that it will run better and probly get the best milage on the premium.

I agree with DROPPEDGMC use premium so you don't mess any thing up. Also i ahve heard that the ls1 will get over 20 MPG on the highway

i wouldnt doubt it if you would get 25+ mpg. unless there has been motor work or had the gears changed. because some of those cars only run like 1800 rpm on the highway.

LS1's have great milage for a V8. I'd use at least 91 gas.

You can use 87 octane but I wouldn't recommend it if the engine will be under load quite a bit.You could get away with 89 and play the middle ground and be ok.And LS1's do get great milage if you keep your foot out of it.And it depends on if it's a auto or manual.Of course a 6 speed will get better mileage than the auto will but the auto's are not bad either. My last Z28 with a 6 speed and stock gears would get about 18 city 25 highway. My TA as it is now mods and all with the 6 speed and 4.10 gears I get about 16 city 21 highway.Ya gotta love the .50 sixth gear.I ran 89 in my Z28 a few times with no problems but I have not in my TA.I just know I would get pinging or detonation with my setup if I used anything lower than 91.
