I would try a heli-coil
Varajet? I might have a spare one... it might not be complete (I think I removed a few parts), but you could use parts off yours... I need to check the shed to be sure.

this is the 3/4 inch opening that the main fuel line goes into in the back of the carb.

found carb at junk yard for 20 bucks. i have never pulled a carb before or rebuilt one. i looked at the bolts and there very hard to get to. is there a special tool i need for these. they r 1/2 inch hold downs. if i can get mine out i will attempt to rebuild the junk one. any experienece with pulling or rebuilding is greatly appreciated.
thanks for all the help. i need this truck running for work i have no other transportation.
also i went to autozone to look at tapping it they dont carry that big of size. they told me to try napa but i didn't have time today to look into it.
one more question. i have no cpu in my truck and was already thinking about swapping to tbi. how much trouble is this and do i need cpu?

if you go to tbi, you will need the intake, wiring harness and ecm(cpu) and maybe ignition as well.

Nevermind TBI. Look dude, get the carb. Should be a bunch of linkage and 4 bolts (10-13mm?)
Honestly, if you are having this much trouble with the carb don't mess with EFI. I realy don't want to sound like a dick but IDK what to tell you man.

its cool. i appreciate the honesty. i dont want the cpu because i live in ca. and i pass smog basically no materr what as long as i have no fuel leaks.
so pulling the carb ican see the 4 bolts but cant get to them. i tried swivels is there some other tool?

use 13mm swivel sockets for the 4 hold down bolts. once you get the nuts loose finish them off with your fingers.

If you have never rebuilt one before and this is your only transportation, now is probably not a good time to be learning. If you took it off,it still had the air cleaner on it,all the linkage was still attached, and APPEARS to be in reasonably good shape, this is what I have done personally.Get a can of b12 chemtool, put a piece of line on the carb inlet and shoot if full, crank it over until it try's to start(don't let it run),this makes sure it gets all through the carb, then shoot it full again, let it sit untill tomorrow.Connecty fuel lines and give it a try.BTW,make sure to catch the gas you are going to be pumping out from the tank.As I said this is just me,done this to carbs that have been sitting for a couple of years and got them to work.

clean out carb put it on. connected everything and started it up. started right away and died. kept trying it and it would try but never fully kick over. after trying this for a bit i walked to the front and noticed fuel coming out where the radiator is. looked down and sure enough the evap line from the fuel pump is shooting gas into my charcoal canister.
i did replace the fuel line as well but cant find any kinks. also i replaced the fuel pump just 4 months ago. any ideas?????

fixed fuel problem. had to replace gasket.
took it to a mechanic. told me my carburetor accellerator pump is going out. he disconected the egr valve and its running pretty good for the time being.
my question is will having the carb rebuilt include the accellerator pump and fix my problem?
