View Full Version : To lift or lower, that is the question. . .

I am needing some advice, if anyone is willing to give an opinion. I am trying to decide if I should lift or lower. Since the last time I lifted, I am leaning heavily towards lowering this one, but would like to get some opinions of people who have lowered theirs.
Last time I had a lift installed, the installer wasn't exactly the most knowledgeable and I ended up in a bad situation. (Hence my hesitation with this one). I don't want to sink a ton of money into my new baby to have her almost break in half because of a bad decision.
Thank you.
J.D.

Well, it at the moment is a shell. So there really isn't much to give. The engine and trani are being built by a friend of mine, so the mileage is not an issue. (4.3L, 262ci, V-6, 5 speed manual) The body is a 1997 S10 extended, but at the moment it is in two pieces. This is just going to be my next big purchase once the decision is made.

Personally, I wouldn't go up if its not a 4x4. Low stance setups are always nice. There a lot of people on here that can help you out.

I'd try 2" spindles and 2" or 3" lowering blocks first and see how you like it. You won't need drop shocks and it should ride just like it did before the drop. Be prepared to get an alignment. When you use drop spindles it pushes the toe out. Sometimes it is a lot and sometimes it isn't. You could measure from the inside of one rim to the other before and see how much it changes. Then you can get the toe close so it's safe to drive to an alignment shop.. After I put my spindles on the toe out was so bad I couldn't go over 10 mph with out the tires squealing.

Get one of these kits from JTR too, http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Parts_S10-Driveshaft-Align.html

Thanks! I posted a picture of what the guys want her to look like when she is done. I am not 100% sold on a few items, but... gotta pick my battles.

x2 on all of that.
My toe-out was just as bad after I put my spindles on. I'm lucky I live a few houses down from an alignment shop. The guy said mine was almost 15 degrees out :shake_125.

Yeah it's normal. Spindle move the wheel up higher. That how you get the drop. I guess where the tie rod bolts to moves up to. So the distance gets closer since it's not at as much of and angle as it was before. Understand? At least that's my guess. IDK for sure. I've never compared stock to drop spindle enough to see what all changes. I just snatched the stock ones off and threw the drop spindles on :D.
