Quit waving the cursor over the title and just clicky...

What might any of you recommend for brake pads?
Im looking to get some good brake pads sometime in the near future.

I want it to be able to handle High speed braking with very little brake fade if any at all...

Im curious as to what material is better.
Ceramic? Kevlar?

Im mostly looking at EBC Red and Yellow stuff.

I might also look into getting some slotted and maybe dimpled rotors as well... when the time comes.

I tried both the EBC Redstuffs and the Hawk whatevers they were. They both stopped fantastic but they dusted SO FREAKING MUCH they almost ruined my Boyd Coddington wheels.

My honest opinion ond the ONLY pads I will run now.... Raybestos Pro Stops, they are a ceramic pad and they stop probably 90% as good as the other ones and have very little dust maybe 75% less.

How often do (or did) you take your vehicle through the wash? or wash it yourself?

I normally go to the carwash about once a week... sometimes every 2 weeks

I use advance auto parts ceramic pads and have not cleaned my wheels in about 4 months (i know shame shame....) but my wheels are not really that bad off and they stop excellent like they will lock up on me if its really wet....

well... I was more curious as to the concern of the brake dust.
I hear about the pads throwing off brake dust. But I also know alot of people rarely clean their car/truck also.

Leaving the dust on their for weeks doesnt help much.
I might try out the other ones you were mentioning, but Im also still thinking about the redstuff. I want something to stop my car quick when I might be doing some higher speeds on the occasion.
ya know... pick it up to 100-120, then have to pound the brakes.

I gots ya, never tried the other ones yall are talking about but I am very pleased with the ceramics, they work really really well and have very low dust....

Napa's Adaptive 1 pads. Search it. You'll see that they're the win.

If you want low dust brake pads, go for Ceramic. Im pretty sure Kevlar is for race applications and isnt "low dust" pads. EBC is pretty good. :thumbup_1

I was polishing them every week to week and a half. The brake dust was almost unbearable. I've since had them cleared and if I want I can go a month and they won't look that bad.

BTW my commuting speed is normally 90-100 and when I pass I go over 100. It's not as bad as when I was home in Miami they are crazy as hell back home.

hmm... alright. That kinda gives me a better idea.
This might turn into a trial and error... But then again, I might just take the warning and go with 2nd best.

I use the hawk HPS's and I really like them. I don't really notice the dust but I don't drive my truck as much as I used to. They stop hard on the track and with wilwood high temp fluid I've never had fade.

I have the hawk pads on my truck now and they do dust like crazy. They do stop really good but in the morning they are very very sticky. Like before i get out of the apts they want to lock up they are so sticky. I dont like it. Once i get going and heat them up a little they are fine but then again they dust like crazy and wont use them again even tho i have another set of them sitting in the closet cause they were so cheap cause pep boys were discontuning them.

I've tried a few combos and so far I like Powerslot rotors with EBC greenstuff pads. Stopping power is great and brake dust is low. I have some new Baer Decelarotors ready to go on next. They are cross drilled & slotted. Performance Friction pads also work pretty good, but they do put off more dust than the EBC's.

You'll be amazed at how much slotted & dimpled rotors help. I have never driven anything that stopped as good as my S10, and it had cheap Wearever pads from Advance Auto.
Even my Camaro, which is 4 wheel disc, doesn't stop as good as my disc/drum S10 with slotted rotors on the front.

Does anyone know a company that makes slotted/dimpled rotor/hub combos for first gen s10's?

I just put new hub/rotors and pads on about 10k ago. The pads are the best I could find but still suck and it doesn't stop much better.

May go this route in a year or so.....just curious.....

That's the best I could find on the first page of my google search haha.

Hope that helps! They aren't the brand I had on my S10 and they aren't dimpled, but it should be a significant upgrade over stock rotors.

That's not TOO Bad I guess. Just wish I wouldn't have already replaced mine. I will search the local part stores and see if they can get any.

Thanks!

LOL! I use to like the Bendix titanium ceramic for a long time but i have recently used some factory GM ceramics with good results thus far.

Has anyone tried the summit drilled and slotted rotors? I'm thinking about trying them out on my 1st gen.

i use the one they sell at pet boys ceramic pro-stop brakes on my 95 eagle talon tsi and i hit high speed of about 130 and it stop pretty good and i never have brake dust on them or maybe because i wash it a lot lol that's my opinion

I hate to tell you guys this but drilled and slotted is a waste of time IMHO. If you must just get slotted not drilled.

I personally go out of my way to get plain slotted rotors. When I do my next brake job I am going to upgrade to the Z51 set up and I have no intentions of running the factory style drilled and slotted. I'm just going to get a set of CENTRIC solid rotors.

What about slotted and dimpled??? The guys here at work say the drilled are just like a cheese gratter.....

Well at least the dimpled won't crack. If you get on the phone with any "Brake Guru" from a rotor or aftermarket Brake kit company they all say the same thing, the drilled/dimpled/slotted/etc. brake rotors is all for looks. 20 or 30myears ago when out gassing was a problem with the old pads and adhesives they used back then you needed it but today they do nothing for you. You can even argue that they do harm by reducing the mass of the rotor and reducing it's ability to dissapate heat. They only have legitamate use in Racing Apps.

Here do some Brake 101 reading.......

In case you don't know Stop Tech is in the same leauge as Brembo, Baer etc just a little less know and definatley more hardcore. They also bought Centric Brake Rotors co.

^^^^^Persio is correct never get both. If you must ONLY get slotted rotors, because cross drilled rotors CAN AND WILL CRACK from heat. Slotted on the other hand will not crack but will aid in cooling efficiency of the brakes....not much, but every bit helps!!.

Have you ever used Performance Friction brake pads; they work good, not a lot of brake dust.

Ooohhh, thanks for the link on brake bleeding.
