My exhaust just fell off (rust) after the cat. Dispite not having a muffler I still feel the engine has all it's low-end and sounds great too. What should I do now? I want a dual-outlet system all the way to the rollpan, should I just have the shop weld in a Y-pipe where the muffler was?
right now i got no cat and a glass pack muffler (chery bomb) and i think it sounds pretty good for a 4.3 and in the future i'm gonna come off the headers and run dual exhaust with 2 cherry bombs. hopefully that will sound pretty good. just an idea for ya.

Well I'm going with a set of JBA's and a 2.25" y-pipe going into the stock cat. It's after the cat I need, I don't want it just dumping out the cat. As far as performance and sound it's perfect without anything on, but I want a system for looks and so the cops don't pull me over (exhaust has to pass the rear passenger seat and the cat's outlet dosn't).
yeah thats what i kinda ment to say was to come off the cat and split it into 2 exhausts and use 2 seperate mufflers. or you could just get a single in dual out muffler and than run the exhaust out the back like you wanted.

Well when i first got my truck I just ran it after the cat for a long time. Then my uncle put a pipe on to the end of the truck. It was WAY to quiet without a muffler  So I gutted the cat, it was the perfect sound everyone loved it!
But if you're staying with a cat, just have a little ypipe thing made and run muffler less :eyebrows_

Ok, I've desided to run muffler-less but I'm going to keep the dual outlet setup. I have to ideas please vote on them:
Option A: Have the little Y thing made up after the cat and run Straight Pipes off it all the way back.
Option B: Get rid of the cat and run Straight Pipes off the headers all the way back.

Im planning on comming from my y-pipe with 2.25" pipe into a single in/dual out flowmaster 40 origial, dual 2.25" out right back into a pair of 3" boom tubes
Ive heard this setup on the 2.8, 3.4, 4.3, 5.0, 5.7 and it sounds sweet on anything!

I vote to just run a single mandrel bent pipe from the cat back and dump after the axle.It will sound great and you won't lose the bottom end you have now the way it.If you gut the cat and run open pipe all the way you will lose that bottom end unless you run lower gears or get a higher stall converter.

Get rid of the pre cat which is the first one (the little one) keep the other cat and go from there. I just put on JBA ceramic coated headers, kept the stock y-pipe and got rid of the pre-cat replaced the other one with a high flow performance cat and put on a flowmaster super 40. Sounds great. Gained bottom end and top end.
