so friday morning i stopped in the store, when i was pulling out of the parking lot, i was on a small incline, and i hit the brakes but the brake pedal (all of a sudden) got hard to press, as if the vehicle was turned off. but it was still running, then the oil pressure was dropping below 40. right after that, the engine started to rev. i dont have an rpm gauge, but i'd guess 3-5k rpms. then it stopped. felt like it was goin to stall. so i had to tow it to the nearest place, which was an aamco.
this happened friday morning, i got a ride home cause he said it'll be 2 or 3 hours before he could work on it. he said he'd call me that day. never called. saturday i called him, he said he's working on it now but cant figure the problem and he'll call me before 12pm (they close on sat. at 12pm) never called. sundays thier closed. on monday i stopped in to see what was going on, he said he can't get it started, and they can't figure out what's wrong with it. but he said he'll try to get it done today, and he'll call me.
no call!
today i stopped by again basically says the same thing. he asked me what it was doing, again, and i told him, then he says oh, that could be the oxygen sensor. he couldnt figure that out in the past 3 days? he told me to call him this time around 2-3pm, just did he said to call him back in 30 min....
sorry for the long story, but i've never experianced anything like this before. that's what mechanics are for, to try to figure the problem out. maybe someone on here knows the problem without even looking at the truck.

I have never been a fan of going to a transmission shop to have my motor worked on. They mite be good with transmissions but motors are a side line. That’s like going to Burger king and asking for a steak....

they were the only shop around, and i've been to other aamcos with nothing but positive service.
apparently they still cant figure out what's wrong. i might have it towed to another shop, tomorrow.

Lol, AAMCO. I would never take even a tranny there. You know another place I don't go to? MAACO........... See a resemblance?
I would so hope you can get it to a real mechanic.
This also closely resembles BP AMOCO... 1 letter off :D

they 'say' they'll fix it today. they believe it's the oil pump. only took 4.5 days to figure it out.

that wouldnt affect your brakes.... ur oil pressue possably usualy its low oil pressure is not the pumps fault.
do not want to see the bill

Bill them for pain and suffering. . . . . and irritation.

I was thinking the same... besides my 2.8L always runs below 40psi warm. If the truck was stumbling/stalling the oil pressure dropping could have been a symptom, not the main cause. Sounded vacuum related to me.
brake booster line and check any other vacuum lines. better get jergins if you wanna keep getting jerked off!

Im with everyone else who says vaccuum lines. The brake booster uses a large vaccuum line, if it comes off or splits open, it will cause one hell of a rise in RPMs....even your PCV Valve comming off or falling out of place due to a poor gromet.
I would go to the shop, get your keys, and have a look under the hood at those 2 things... save your self a lot more time, and money. Sounds like your getting hosed big time.

that only happened once. it's sitting in my driveway now, and the only thing its doing is loosing oil pressure, and stalling. if its an oil pump, i called around, they keep saying it's a $700-$900 job to replace. but i'll check, myself, the vacuum lines see if i can find anything.

I see you have one of the old 60 v6's... check this out to try to get a code off the engine...

If it throws a code and you could post it up here, it may give people more information to go off of.

Hmm I thinks I've seen that somewhere before. If your gonna use links please at least make sure we don't already have the info on this site first.

Brake booster or the hose sounds like a likely culprit to me, as several others have said

Oil pressure dropping doesn't fit, but everything else could be explained by a major vacuum leak. Try blocking off the vacuum hose where it comes off the engine to go to the brake booster and see if the truck will start & idle. If it does then the line or booster is your culprit. If it doesn't you may still have a vacuum leak somewhere else.
