Well ive been shopping around for a new truck for a bit now. Ive come accross a 2003 S10 LS with the 2.2/auto. How are these motors? What kind of problems do they have? reliable? hows the fuel milage? I dont want to trust a dealership to tell me that these motors have absolutly no problems cause i know better than that!
Thanks guys

I have the 2.2 auto and it has almost 28k miles on it(I've had it since 21969) and the only gripe I have had with it is that it doesn't have the power I am used to having(manual says 120 hp, but the auto tranny takes power). It gets around 23 mpg in the city, not sure what it gets on the highway b/c most of my trip to school is in the city. Very reliable though.

highway mileage you can trust it to get between 28 and 30. the power is an issue if you have an automatic but i got a five speed so redlinin it is fun. but either way its still a pretty weak truck. but other than that the only problem ive seen reoccuring on mine and some friends truck is the gas gauge goin out.

if you're pulling 50 mph or more, you might need to charge the hill a little, it'll have to downshift a gear, but it's all right otherwise. Remember, you do have three lower gears if you really need it

redlines at 6K though horsepower drops pretty steep after 5K . i believe 120hp at the crank so i would suspect about 90 to 100 at the wheels .

i got the 2.2 manual in my 95 w/107k on it, and it runs good, but there is not much for power... if u want power in an s-10 i suggest a 4.3, or a swap... a buddy of mine has a 4.3 and i was with him while he beat a 5.7!
