I know there is a how-to on restoring the black plastic trim on the gen 2s, but what about the gen 1s? The trim is metal?? The stuff (around the windows mostly) on the Blazer is looking really rough. :(

Is it just oxidized...can you snap a pic of it?

Are you talking about the trim by the rear door windows and such? I just roughed mine up and shot the good old Rustoleum on it.

I'd advocate heavily for the Rustoleum Automotive finish, the stuff rocks!

The guys that did my upholstery do resorations on alot of concours cars. The older Porsche 911's use a anodized metal/stainless trim around their windows. Anodization fades out over time. They use an acid etch on the trim (removed from car) before they paint it. Paint is something specific but I dont recall at the moment which kind. (Enamel, Acrylic, Laquer, etc)

It almost looks moldy... but it doesn't clean up. I had tried some black wax with no luck.

Eric, is that Rustoleum Automotive finish flat or gloss? Where did you find it?

I might try to do something with it this weekend... thinking of having a Blazer weekend - tune-up, wash and wax...

Painted up the window trim this weekend... looks so much better. I also painted the door handles and the mirrors... now I just need to paint the spare tire carrier, wiper arms and rear glass hinges.

Little stuff like that makes it look soooo good...
