is it better to cut the bed or get a short bed from another s10 would it be a direct bolt on or whats better
As far as the bed itself, I'd say it would be easier to buy a short bed, unless you have good sheet metal fabrication skills. No, it would not be a direct bolt on to a long box truck as the rear axle sits farther back and the frame is longer... you would have to shorten the frame (moving the rear axle forward) using a Z notch - also requires fabrication skills as well as shorten the driveshaft or buy one for a short box truck.

In other words... it's probably better to just buy a short bed truck :p
I really like the long bed trucks. You don't see them very often.

The wheel base is different anyways. You would need to shorten frame, driveshaft, brake cables, hoses...

For an S10 yes, but a common thing done on the old 67-72 chevy trucks... I bought a short box for our 69, but haven't gone through shortening the truck yet because it is so useful as a long box.
