94 s10 pickup...disk front drum rear...the brakes have been squeeking for the past month or so...the catch is that they only squeek when i DONT have my foot on the brake...as soon as i tap the brake the squeek stops...someone told me a rock could be stuck in the pad or that the brake pad could be loose...i cant tell if its coming from the front or back left or right, but i need to redo the brakes anyways so i'm just wondering if anyone knows what this could be...thanks...

you best bet would be to inspect the brakes. check the thickness of the pads. Inspect your rotors for large groves. If your brakes are worn at all it is not very expensive for new pads and rotors. It cost me $100 but i also replaced both calpiers

screeching when you are not on the brakes is the brakes telling you they need replaced very very soon .
brakes have what is called a screech pad . its a thin piece of metal that will scrape across the rotor when the brakes are worn to the point they need replaced .

the rear brakes are not that much harder just get a manual and only take one side apart at a time. Drumbs are not that hare to deal with.

yeah, just 1 at a time, this way you have something to look at when you get lost!

Good job man
i need to put some new binders on my rig pretty soon
one way to stop squeeky breaks is to take a da with some 80 grit paper to the rotors and it will help take the glaze off. it dont always work but i've done it and it's helped me

also i forgot to mention that at low speeds when i brake i hear a loud clunk coming from the rear brakes...also the emergency brake dosent work...i took the drum off and looked inside and the self-adjuster was rusted to hell...so i'm thnking its not adjusting correctlly...and the pedal goes all the way to the floor when you really press it...i'm posative there isnt a leak because i dont lose and fluid and i cant see any fluid...would excessively loose or unadjusted rear brake pads cause this??

that adjuster may be installed backwards too. i pulled my drums off for the same reason and low and behold, it was backwards. parking brake stated working, i had decent felling brakes, then POP something else happened and i havent looked to see yet, haha. i gotta get them done

for disc brake pads go with the wagner thermo quiet. these are awesome no brake dust and no squeeking u dont even have to use that gooey disc brake quiet stuff just check them out also lifetime warranty i did mine on my old 94 blazer and they were around $40
I used to have the brakes squeek when no pressure applied. Thought it was a rock. I got ceramics for 30 bucks, on sale. Only thing is, they squeak alittle at a certain pressure.

One of the problems I beleive on s-10/s-15 is the brakes everyone I know that has one has sqeeks. Mine had multiple problems. The heat sheild was bent in one time, when I got it the brakes were cheap so i got real good ones, the pads were low so the indicator was squeeking, and once from going down a hill constantly on the brakes they were glazed so i sanded them with 180 grit sand paper. I also had my back brake pads seperate from the shoe because the person that owned it used cheap everything. You get what you pay for! Hope you fix it.

the back brakes are drums so there is no fluidgoing to them.. only a cable, When you apply your parking brake it goes right ot the floor becasue they need to be adjusted (your drums are worn out) you can adjust them from under the driver dor on the cable of there is an adjustment in back on the brakes them selves.. if this doesn't help you mey want to replace your brake drums (fairly cheap) before you need to park on a hill and use your brake.

Let's be clear here. Drum brakes use hydraulically applied wheel cylinders to activate the rear brakes so fluid is definitely going to them. The cable is for parking brake only.
Also, you do not want to use the cable to adjust parking brake pedal height unless after adjusting the shoes properly, pedal height remains an issue. Using the parking brake cable to adjust parking brake pedal height w/o adjusting the shoes first will only accomplish pulling the shoes away from the wheel cylinders resulting in a soft brake pedal.

ya well what i meant was with the parking brake.. sorry if that wasn't clear and you should adjust the shoes so that your park brake stops ater about 9 clicks min to 13 clicks max
