Aight, for the past few weeks, my dash/high/low lights have been flickering slightly. Then i notice a kinda whining noise coming from under my hood a week later and now, the lights are flickering really bad, the truck is idleing rough and the truck just died in my driveway. I know its the alternator, but do i have to replace the whole thing? Someone told me it might be a bad diode, if it is a bad diode, how would i go about fixing it?

I really dont think its the diode, You will be better off buying the new Alt. They should be no more than $70.

Yeah I've never came across a bad diode, replace the whole thing. You could also upgrade to a higher output alt from Powermaster.

Chances are it is a bad diode, and they can be replaced, BUT it doesnt make any sense to do that. Even if you know what you are getting into when you tear an alternator apart, it would be stupid to do so, since it would cost almost as much to repair as it would to replace it, and with a replacement, most of the time you get a warranty. So, yeah, replace it, they are cheep and like i said, have a warranty

any alternator can be rebuilt, can you guess where Napa gets theirs? Rebuilt from China. Just get a new one for $80 bolt it on and go.

Before you blame it on the alternator, check your battery terminal connections to make sure they're not loose.
