Smoking.

When I start up my 99 2.2 it blows out smoke for a second. Then after that it does not smoke any more. But every time I start it it black smokes. What is the reason for this?? And my truck takes a minute to start when it's hot.

Usually valve guide seals are the culprit on startup smoke.
The starting thing could be heat-soaking which could be ignition related (module , coil) or fuel related with the injectors

If it's smoking black on startup then I would say it's fuel related, fuel burns black smoke and oil burns blue smoke. I'm with Michel on the heatsoak idea.

What is the heat soak idea? What kind of fuel problem would cause this? The spark plugs are new ac delco rapid fire. I installed a cold air intake a couple days ago. But I think my truck was doing that before the intake anyway.

Black smoke eh....sounds like an injector leaking down to me...if you can...run the truck till it gets hot. Park it and shut it down. Try to let it sit as long as possible...12-24 hours preferable. After its been sitting, go out, pop the hood, and pull the sparkplugs. Look at each sparkplug, inspecting for dampness and odor of fuel. If you cant smell anything that way, try to smell each sparkplug hole for the odor of fuel. If you have one cylinder that smells more of raw fuel than the others, you likely have an injector leaking down over time, and its time for 4 new injectors.

Smoking while starting the engine is the problem of the carburettor or the changing time of the engine oil , Are the main reasons of the coming smoke . And about heat of the engine check the cooling system .

put in alot of info of how bad it is and its bad affects, such as premature aging, yellow teeth, lung cancer... the worse you make smoking look, the more info you will have, and your teacher will be very happy if you have lots of reasons.
