Was just wondering if a 96 computer will work with a 99 harness???

For your truck, I think it will but don't hold me to that. IMO if it was for your truck i would rather have the 02 and up LS PCM series conversion.

I'm with Shawn. If you're gonna do it, might as well go with the 0411 PCM. Guys have done it.
Here's a thread about it. http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f11/0411-pcm-swap-2001-and-newer-pcm-441028/ Someone over there could send you the Excel sheet of what pins to swap. I have the 98-00 to a 01+ 0411 PCM swap sheet if anyone out there reading this is interested.

Oh I will do that eventually. But for right now I need a cheap way to lose the speed limiter and this computer already has a programmer married to it and the programmer came with the PCM.

I know HPTuners works on '96. Know anyone local with it? Surely PCM4Less or Wait4Me can tune for that on the cheap.
The '96 PCM is going to be pretty much the same as the '99 anyways.
Thats what I figured. I dont need a tune as much as I just need the speed limiter removed or raised.

I think you would be best suited to find a local shop with HPT and Dyno to dial it in and remove/raise the limiter (and other things). Or buy a laptop and HPT.
By the time you buy PCM, swap it / repin harness, get the tune programmed and downtime, you are into it cost wise just as much and still stuck with what you got.

The 0411 is a much better way to go. The vortech controller is a worthless pile of poo.
