broken lower control arm

Somehow the pass side lower control arm decided it was time to die today. Lucky I was in my yard but it snapped off right where the lower ball joint goes through it.

Anybody know where I can get one cheap? I'll try to get pics in a few I just got it out and tired.

Yeah, I aint ever seen one do that. Flat ground and wasn't going 5mph. Just snapped and tucked the tire in the wheelwell bending the fender back into the door. Guess it gives me a reason to get those other fenders on it finally.

Rust? I've got some lower control arms sitting around the yard.... well, they are still attached to an entire front suspension with a trail master lift on it. Don't think I'd use them.

The didn't rust out, its a shear break. Still working on pics. I might have to find another host sight since photobucket is acting an arse.

How much ya think ya part with the pass side control arm. I really hate to buy a new one with a SAS in the plans for this summer.

Tell me about it. I could understand it if I was out wheeling and hit a hole or large bump. Been raining or I'd go take a pic of the spot it happened. The ground is flat cause it was an old driveway on our property.

I did knock some of the dirt off of it with a wire brush for the pics but the crack was shiny with a fresh break from the start, I didn't clean it up any.


Just got to get it back on the road. I still gotta get a astro steering box, some kinda jeep drop arm, some springs (aint made up my mind on dakota springs or running the suggested chevy springs for the kit), and get my dana rebuilt. Might go ahead and do my sas before my v8 swap to see if I will need a special oil pan or not.

Well the plucking drivers side is cracked all to crap also. I aint ever wheeled this truck hard and don't understand this crap. At least I think I can weld this one up since its not too bad but still.


I need to hurry up and order my rear hangers, get an astro van steering box, and just ditch this POS IFS.

Its gonna get fixed if nothing else parked and fixed with a SFA. I'm so sick and tired of this IFS right now I could burn it to the ground.

thanks, tink helped me out on the pass side but it had to be replaced. The drivers side I'm having the welder where my dad works takein care of. I think I could weld it up fine but since hes a pro and offered I figured I'd let him do it. Its just a couple of small 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch long stress cracks so they should be fine welded for a couple of months.
