Ok so I looked at the Sticky about four cylinder 2.2 info and well here's some question I have that aren't mentioned in there

1. Bore and stroke is it the same between all 2.2?
2. Did they change up the Pistons?
3. Cranks are they the same?

I got a set of pistons with connecting rods out of a 94 2.2 and the pistons have a huge dish on them compared to the ones that are in my 98 2.2 mine are almost flat tops 'stock?'. Will the pistons with connecting rods from the 94 work in my 98 block? I snapped a connecting rod in mine which is why I have the rods and pistons from the 94.

1): Yes, the bore & stroke remained the same in all the years of the LN2.

2): Yes, the pistons did change. Along with the design of the head, intake manifold, injectors, exhaust manifold, camshaft profile, crank-trigger timing (Starting in '97) and engine management... You get the idea? But yet, the connecting-rods remained the same.

3): Aside from the li'l detail I mentioned in the last answer... No, the cranks are the same. The balancing for the rods & pistons are different.

So yes, you can use the rods from a '94 in your '98. And yes, the flat-top pistons are stock in the '98, as to maintain the "Static" compression-ratio had before with the '98's redesigned combustion-chamber. Use the '94 pistons & you compression will drop like a rock, and your truck--all other things engine-wise still being stock--will move like one too! Not to mention the crank re-balance needed with the changes to the recipocating-assembly weight had with post-production changes, like different pistons.
