View Full Version : Water Pump
I'm not sure, if the pump is bad, or going bad, I don't think it's leaking, for there are no puddles of Anti freeze, but I have no flow through the radiator.
The heater still gets warm, but not like it used to, once in a great while the water temp. will get a little warmer than what I like, but goes back down to 180
I've check the the T-stat, and it opens ok, I just don't have any flow.
What do you guys think?
Pump getting weak, and about to go out?
It's got a little over 80,000 miles on it, and as far as I know it ain't never been changed. Should I change it?

Its possible the pump is bad, the impeller is just usually press fit to the impeller shaft, so its likely its come loose and doesnt have that press fit to spin the impeller any more. Water pumps are fairly inexpensive, and wouldnt hurt to change if you have 80,000Mi on it. Its about due to start leaking, lol.

if in doubt pull the pump and check it, or just replace it and the thermostat all at the same time.
Take all doubt out of the problem, and try to flush the cooling system too.

x2, when you flush it use plain white vinegar like you would use to clean a coffee pot, it works believe it or not.

Dexcool?
Going to have it replaced Thursday, being that we have moved to an apt/condo,....... lol,,...... I had to store all my tools, parts, and other misc, at my brother-n-laws place.
So there's a guy that comes in the store all the time, he quoted me 65.00 to take on the task.Didn't think that was too bad.
It's probably time to have it done, just for peace of mind.
Dexcool?
There's Dex in it now, but there won't be after Thursday

Have the radiator professionally flushed first. That's what I'd do.........well...I'd try to flush it my self to be honest but professionally is what I would suggest.

Make sure he uses some dex cool compatable stuff if you dont flush it out. Dexcool and regular stuff = even bigger headache that dexcool alone.

X2. I had to flush 2x's to get all the Dex out. After the 1st time there was still 'floaters' popping up of black goo from the Dex. That will clog the rad cores.
Have the bypass hose changed also. Its small and in expensive. It could be gummed up with corrosion
