right now i have alpine sps-600 6.5 speakers in my doors. they work good, but i got a leak in the top of the driver door, and now that speaker is ruined..... so now im in the market again for new 6.5s, i liked the alpines, but i want something that can take more power, and have harder lower mids, but higher high mids...
any info would help. would cadence be a good place to look at? ive heard they can hit hard.

The Alpine Type S you had has a very substansial cone area for a 6.5". The Type Rwould be a step up in power handling but are you giving them more power?? If not, then you will be doing yourself no justice putting in a speaker that has a higher power requirement. The R's will have the same cone area and have the same warmth mid/lows you are a-custom to. The highs are a little brighter but nothing major since they are not a hard dome tweeter on them.
If ur thinking more bass from a 6.5, dont bother. You may find any given speaker to have more or less, but at the end of the search its still a 6.5" cone and thus can only accurately produce a certain range of frequencies. Thats whay a tweeter is small and subwoofer is big

that is very true about cone size. yes i am going to bump up the RMS. i think im going to get new door seals first. and what about the speaker baffles, do they really keep the speakers dry?
thanks for the reply.

I have the alpine type s in my silverado all way round... love the way it sounds even with out the subs... my choice would be the type s ...

Doors are meant to have some water enter them even with new seals. Thats why u will find drain holes at the bottom and there is factory plastic sheilding inside.
I assume this is a 2nd Gen?
The baffles will work fine but may change the lower frequencies a bit. May not even notice them.
I took out the stock sheilding and did dynamat xtreme on the entire door which in turn isolated the speaker (which I have custom mounted to the actual pastic door panel) from the door.
