2000 4.3 ..Been noticing the temp never really heats up in the winter and in the warmer months gets hotter than it it should...

Im thinking its time to to a thermostat and a flush out of the cooling system..

Now heres where the noob comes in is the thermostat under the long waterneck on the top front of the intake where the RAD hose is connected like old school ??

Also what coolant is the best ive read about DEXcool being just crap..
Any help will be appreciated..

Yes its in the intake manifold. I run a 180 thermostat & IMO dexcool sucks, dump it & use prestone.

Check your fan clutch it probalby needs to ne replaced.

Yes on the thermo. Put a factory replacement AC Delco one back in.

Just but some straight antifreeze off the shelf and mix it 60-40 or 50-50 yourself. No point in payingg an extra 5 bucks for half a jug of water. Distilled water works best for mixing if you are going to mix your own.

If you do flush the dexcool out, pull the lower rad hose and flush it our REAL well. Even pull the heater hoses off and flush the heater core, and the engine (via the one end of the heater core hose). DEXcool and regular coolant do not mix well. There are DEXcool compatable coolants on the shelf tho, just gotta read the bottle.

Any help to ya?
