Hey everyone, new guy here, and i just picked up a 95 blazer
at a government auction and im having some trouble with it.
At the auction, we only got to hear, and see the vehicles run.
Not put into gear or moved at all. it seemed alright, so i bought it lol
( im 18 btw ) but anyway, after the auction, i hoped in, started it up, put in in drive
and it seemed to be starting out in 2nd gear, It did not feel as if the trans was slipping.
And i droped it all the way down into 1st, gave it some fuel, and dug the rear end in the soft sand
by mistake lol, and got it stuck -.-. pressed the 4wd button, and she drove right out, and up the trailer.
I really hate to think the trans is shot, it does have 181K on it, but it was a county
owned and maintained truck which may, or may not be a bad thing lol.
my question is Could it be Shift Solenoid? if so which one? I dont have much experience with transmissions.
but i do have some experience working on my built 89 Cherokee xj, 14 inch lift, Lockers, 36inch swampers that my dad and I built.
It seems to still have 1st gear, and once its moving it shifts through the gears, but not back down to first.
I really need some help here lol... i may have bit off more then i can chew.1050 bucks =( Thx

My experiance with County or "service" trucks are they Get DOGGED out, my best advice to you is to take it to a transmission shop, either a chain store or small jobbers shop who specializes in transmissions thats been around a while and have them look at it, it mite just be a loose band or a bad band. and you'll have some peice of mind. Welcome to the site by the way.

Not quite sure what you mean by band? Would you explain a little? And yeah, its kinda a hit or miss at the county auctions, i mean we bought a almost mint 1999 ford f150extcab 4x4 with 134k on it out of the same auction for 1300 bucks, all it needed was a TPS lol. and now it runs and drives great, Just needs a paint job. well, i have a ASE mechanic i can call, who is pretty good and is my dads best friend but im trying to figure this out somewhat on my own lol.

i know the feeling as to wanting to figure it out on your own, welcome to the planet btw, Just a warning S-Series are addicting if your not into comitment you bought the wrong rig LOL. anyway i would also take it to a trans shop two things i dont touch are the transmission and breaks (Automatics Especially)
I almost bought a Ram 1500 From the county for 3k it had 38k miles on it but i passed i wanted somthing with better gas milege heh

Well I'm too tired to explain it but click this link it will help you in your understanding. Your truck should have a 4L60E Transmission (automatic) repairs depending on the shop runs from 750 to 1300, and mite be even cheaper all depends on whats wrong. Good thing there are a LOT of those style transmissions out there.

If 1st is the issue, it is probably shift A solenoid. Easy fix in the pan... then you can change the fluid and filter too.

oh funny story relating to automatic's. my mom has a 2011 Kia Soul, we got a jack russel terryer my mom left puppy in the car and the puppy chewed a wire under the drivers chair so now the car wont shift out of first gear and my mom is confused so she takes it to the dealership thinking it will be under warenty (Dident know the dog did it) well long story short it cost $1,600 to fix the transmission becase the puppy wanted to chew a wire. i could have fixed said wire for $2 worth of parts and ten minetes of work lol some places are rip offs but they claim it took them 26 hours to find the problem...
