Is it worth it to rebuild the 2.8? When the time came, i really wanted to do the 3.4 thing, but im just not ambitious enough.
I want to keep it simple....probly upgrade to the camaro heads, do some headers, hotter ignition...that type of thing
if you could find jj you could talk to him. he is the 2.8 guru of the site. if i ever see him on AIM i'll talk to him but he has been really busy so i dont know when that will be.
if you're gonna do it, the 3.4L with mpfi is the nuts. good mileage and good performance, for a 3.4L.
edit:
i did a rebuild on a blown up 1984 2.8, we put 86 mpfi from a camaro on it and it was like a whole different engine.

What exactly do i need to convert to fuel injection?
Like, say i found a 93-95 camaro in the wreckers....what extra would i need to get from the car to make it work properly?
ecm , wiring harness, need to match up fuel lines, all emisions controls (or tune them out), dont forget the exhaust manifolds,
ok now im just talking out of my ass... Ill let someone who knows take it form here.
you will need the upper and lower intake plenums, the maf/map/iat/O2 sensor with a boss to weld into the exhaust as close to manifold as possible. you will need the ecm, all of the front engine accessories (ac, alt, p/s) and THE PULLEY'S for surpentine setup. make sure you get the accessories AND THE BRACKETS!!!
you will need to keep the vacuum actuated switch and wiring for the TCC if you intend to keep lockup tq converter. i'll add more later.

i think i just want to keep the stock engine/carb...sounds like to much work to wire in FI

As far as the heads go, buy some fuel injected heads, they are the exact same as the camaro heads. The ones ont he 87 and later flow really well. The swap isnt that dificult, just put your accessories on the camaro block, it takes less work than re building the 2.8 and will be much more satisfying. If you rebuld the 2.8 you will have to pull it anyway, so just buy a camaro long block put your intake maifold on bada bing bada boom you have a better running truck. Then you will have some fuel tuning issues to deal with, but that isnt hard at all with a carb. I looked into buildng my 2.8 to the hilt, but decided it would be cheeper and have more options for future add ons to do a small block swap. Hope this helps you some, hell, I might have a set of heads you could buy here this summer, depends on whether or not I put my motor and trans in a sand rail or not.
yeah the camaro 3.4L mpfi long block is the way to go. it is pratically a bolt in place, except for water houses, accessories, wiring, etc. electric fan would be nice too....
there is just no comparison to turn key every time. carb sucks in that regard, imo.
