What are these trucks worth? the kelly blue book gave me a verry insulting number.
Ive been looking around at 98+ trucks, and ill be selling mine. but first im gonna get the body work and paint done...so what is a ballpark figure for a:
-1985 GMC S15
-2.8v6 with 65,000 original miles (excelent condition)
-brand new suspension
-brand new 17" wheels
-brand new tires
-custom interior
-Full MTX/Alpine/Sony audio system
-Fresh chrome
-strait body/excelent paint
-totally mint interior
If its not worth much, then im not gonna bother with paint/body work...as it stands now, i like to think its worth at least $4500 cdn (so i guess about $3500 for you guys)
Ive got about $5500 into is so far including what i bought the truck for. I know its probly not a realistic question...but i would like to know what something like this is worth when it looks perfect, runs perfect, and drives perfect.
Thanks, Brian
sorry dude i dont even think your close. i would say $3500 (american) on a good day on a very good day when you were very lucky. i'd say more like $3000 and thats still really pushin it. even though your is in really good shape. clean and has some extras its still just an old s10.
i'd be very lucky to get $3500 for mine and its a 93 with a 4.3 and its a cpi plus full power everything and its a 4x4.
used car prices have dropped big time atleast around here. but every where is different try to find what there selling for in your area.
remember a vehical is worth what you can get someone to pay for it. so you never know when you find some moron to buy it for twice what its worth.
but i do still love your truck.
*edit* save your money and drop a 350 in the first gen
an 85 s-series with 2.8...
in actuality they'er worth the scape metal value and salvageable parts. sight unseen.. I wouldn't give more than 1500 and it would have to be a great condition outherwise 500-1000bux.
There are exseptions to every rule though. In most peoples eyes I over payed for a 91 s10 blazer recently($2000), but it was a 4x4, in perfect condition, with super low miles and never wrecked. Most I looked at would have cost well over what I payed to even come close to getting them in this condition. You have to take into acount how much you want the truck, the condition of the truck and what it will cost to restore one. Consider that this is an old truck and wil probally have allot of miles. you will more than likely be replaseing an engine and/or tranny in the near future unless you can pickup one that was a sunday driver with under 100K on it. I know my 85 only had a 5 digit odometer so be carefully of one with with too low of milage.
3xxx tops. Its the way the game goes. you can never get out what you put into it. Period end of story. Its an insult, so build it like you want it. To tell you the truth, unless you sell it to a mini trucker, the lowering KILLS the value, atleast around here. Common buyers just dont appreciate what we put into stuff
the book on it is 1600 and I gave it all the options and an excelent condition rateing.
If your serious about overpaying for this truck i sugest takeing it to a good shop and paying to have it looked at very closely. looks arn't **** if it isn't mechnicly sound if you drive it for a week and find out it has enternal engine problem, a bad tranny, or electrical problems.
um i think he's trying to see how much he can get for his truck not to buy one. his truck is the 1985 and he's looking to see how much he can sell it for

In that case im not gonna even bother finishing the truck. I think ill throw all the stock suspension back in, put on the really really nice wheels (*14's*), take out the stereo and list it for $1500 obo
thanks for your thoughts guys

I know here in BC...these trucks go for ALOT
im talking like 9000 for a 1993 just like mine, not lowered or nothing, just tottally stock, and people are buying them...thats why i figured mine was worth atleast 4500
we'll see...im workin on getting myself a pretty little union job in the copper mines so i may keep the old truck, park it and fix it up and buy something different as my daily

that would be nice if you keep that 1st gen but you need to do what you whant to
remeber me saying there is exseptions to every rule.......
if your trying to sell it put the price and see if someone bites. you just saw 2 people say they would pay 3000.
s-10 are entusiates trucks. A strait 1st gen is fair condition is getting rare. This means someone out there will pay the price for it.
put it this way a. I had a parts car a 57 belair. 57 belair is only "worth" 200bux, but there are allot of people that will pay much more to get one. I got 2400 for half a car and i wasn't even trying to sell it.
If you look at my avatar you'll see a pic of a car my buddy sent me. He payed 30g for it(granted it runs 6s, but it's still a chevette)
as it was said before your not going to get back what you put in.

you'll never get what you put in, but sell it to some 17 year old kid who knows nothing and is going for looks. before i sell my 95 im thinkin of droppin it and tinting it to attract some of the younger crowd...younger USUALLY, NOT ALWAYS means stupider!!!

seriuosly though... You really want more than it's worth.. go to a couple of small local shows and get a trofey or at least plase. Sell it as a winning show truck you could easily get the 4500 you want.

Cant beleive i said that!
IM gonna keep the old girl....do it up real nice and everything. I dont care if its worth the scrap metal value, that MY SCRAP!! haha...plus its my first truck, and i think its only right to keep it for along time..damn, by the time im 50, this sucker will be 70 years old, maybe one day these s-trucks will be worth some good coin. Back in the 70's, who thought that an old '55 chevy pickup could be worth anything...now when they are all fixed up and lookin cherry, they arent cheap.

Ya man keep your 1st gen, it's practically mint condition! It's true, it's getting very hard to find these trucks in good condition.
And since you're keeping, why not do a V8 swap...... that'd be sweet.

I may consider it....im gonna have to get a new daily driver and just park the S15 if i get crazy like that. I would love to be able to spin the back tires!haha

yeah man, unfortunately, our trucks arent worth **** unless theyre show quality. not too many people care about how much you've put into it cuz they see it as just a plain old pickem up truck that they'll be using in a utilatarian manner.
it's getting hrder and harder to find 1'st gen s and t-series in good or ever salvagable shape.
We are a very misunderstood group of people. WE take a wortless car and make it something everyone wants, but most are unwilling to pay for. there is alway someone that will pay more than the value because it's worth it to them.I call these people freinds, this board calls them entusiasts, kelly blue book calls them suckers.

well put! haha
i agree...someone who apprectiates the work that has gone into one of these trucks will pay a little extra to help you out. My uncle just sold his '87 S10 4x4 that he fixed up over the last 4 years and he got $5000 for it. Nothing too fancy...rebuilt engine, 31" tires, 3" body lift, and a fresh coat of paint. I did look good thats for sure, but someone will pay extra when they understand whats gone into the truck.

well i learned an important lesson about value this week after hittin that deer. the insurance company says my truck is only worth $1500. but the part i dont get is that they were willin to sink up to $2300 into it to fix it. more than $2300 and the truck would be totaled, which it was. so you'd think my truck would be worth more than $2300 if thats what they were willing to spend on damages. but through some strang, unknown math calculation they determined my truck to only be worth $1500.
its sad, it seems that insurance companys are out there to screw ya. its almost not even worth customizing a truck when you know this stuff. even if you have aftermaket stuff on, the value is still only as high as your truck's value in stock condition.
its real sad.

Yeah it sucks. I knew when I started fixing mine up that I would probably never get my money back out of it. But what the hell, it's a lot of fun and I really get a kick out of seeing kids faces when they realize it's an old fart driving a cool truck.

im with Mike on this one....since ive already got so much into mine, and i know its not worth nothing, im just gonna keep pouring money into it and keep it for a long time
I want to be able to see kids faces when they realize that some old fart is driving that wicked truck!

yeah well that was my plan. to keep my truck forever and put a good amount of money into it. and i probly still will customize my trucks. but im just a little more hesitant now. cuz you can lose it all in the matter of a few seconds. and the insurance companies dont give a ****. so now im stuck for money and i prolly wont be able to completely fix my truck or find a truck and have enough money to customize it.

I feel sorry for the idiot who hits my truck and totals it. I have wanted a blazer since I was 14 yrs old and then the xtreme came along and it took me untill 2003 to get one of those. I want to keep this blazer for ever and when the 4.3L takes a **** I will drop in a 350 or even a 454.
Anyway, if you let the ins. company total it and pay you some money then tell them you have to get all the stuff out that you put into it that they are not paying you for. Or take the $2300 that they said they would pay to have it fixed and fix it yourself or take the $2300 and then part out the truck and put all the money together and buy something better. Just my thoughts.

yeah i have a couple options with this situation. ill have a better idea of what im gunna do tomorrow. im gunna talk to the ins company tomorrow and im also goin to look at another first gen with a 4.3. so i gotta figure out what im gunna do but either way im gunna end up with a first gen. its just demoralizing that i have to start all over if i get a new one. but we'll see how it goes.
and sorry bowtie for whoring up your thread. im just venting and gettin some ideas.:)
