Hey guys. When I turn the ignition i get a fffzzzzzzzz noise sometimes without the engine engaging. I figured the starter is just off a bit, but wanted to see what you guys thought. Can I just get under the truck and put it in place or whats going on???

is you started turning at all of is it just the solenoid clicking. If the solenoid is just clicking either you have a bad connection or your battery is low
or the starter is not shimmed right and it is binding against the flywheel. if you don't have it in there correctly, sometimes they take a shim, my 84 took a shim in it otherwise it would bind and smoke the starter.
you could have a good starter and a bad solenoid also or visa-versa.

I think you're describing a starter drive on it's way out. Sound like the motor is spinning fast but not engaging anything? That's the starter drive.

yeah, its a fast higher pitch noise than the engine spinning. I'm pretty sure its the starter, so is there anything i can do to fix it? or am i looking at getting another starter?

I'd find a local, reputable starter/alternator rebuilding outfit. Quality is usually greater because they supply local repair shops.
