hey everyone, monday i bought myself a new rig, a 2000 blazer 4dr 4.3 vortec. good truck no body damage at all, has 180K miles on odometer, 92k of which are tow miles, so yay :) i bought this truck for $2500, had a few problems, such as driver window didn't work, bad shocks, radiator leak, break line was bad, and..... nope nvm thats it :) lol. just figured i'd share some pictures.

Zq8's or Xtreme wheels on a 4wd will stick out. Get some fender flares and it'll look tough.

almost forgot a couple things, the pop bottle is there because i was fixing the radiator and needed it held forward, also all other problems the trruck had are completely fixed and the tires are BRAND NEW :) but am saving for winter. so far to the truck i have built a box for two 10" subs that down fire and installed them, painted the ENTIRE chassis, a arms, cross members, etc. with heavy duty rubberized undercoating, also have repainted the grill because it was faded, repainted the plastic covers for rear bumper because they were faded. i have also put triple platinum plugs in it, k&n air filter, imco high flow performance muffler, new rims with offset so they stick out about 1 inch, tires mounted on them are used and fairly worn but didn't have money right now for good ones so they'll work. got some pics of what i've done. here you go.

nice amp wire... lol i had mine run down from the back of the battery across the bottom of the fan shroud and then down the drivers side of the frame to the cab and up through the floor boards, i said had because i took it out. but it looked clean when i opened the hood.

afterthought, that bug deflector actually keep bugs off the windsheild? ive always wonderd but never have had an opertunity to ask someone before.

lonniejr
07-04-11, 01:55 AM
honestly i believe so maybe not 100% of them but atleast 80% i'd say

12sws27
07-04-11, 02:14 AM
Is that was it's for? I always assumed it was so the bugs didn't hit the hood where it curves dead on.

lonniejr
07-04-11, 03:22 AM
i think they are for the windshield? lol im honestly not sure.

Zerosven
07-04-11, 03:27 AM
i always thought they were for the windsheild i dunno could be wrong, dont really mind wiping bugs off the windsheild so i never botherd to try it + they are expensive.

lonniejr
07-04-11, 04:23 AM
well from what i've noticed they do seem to keep alot of bugs off the windsheild, atleast on the highway

hey everyone sorry for the wait, here the rims i put on, possably only temporary got some other rims that are all black but gotta get tires mounted on them first, post some comments, oh and yup just cleaned her :) oh can any of you peeps out there give me a reason why my hood may not sit straight? the gap on pass side is larger then driver side toward the front of hood?

turn up your bump stops (Or down), little rubber octagons in the engine bay to the left and the right of where the front of the hood latchs, i had the same issue and i just had to turn those up a bit.

or do you mean the width of the gap between the fenders, if thats the case then it may not have bolted on staright and you just need to unbolt it from the hinges and align it better.

lonniejr
07-09-11, 05:43 AM
gap between it and the fenders, i figured it was aligned wrong just figured i'd throw out a question bout it before i did anything

Zerosven
07-09-11, 07:49 AM
ive taken a couple hoods off, not fun... good luck! them things are heavy, you can easily scratch the paint. I hope you can find someone to help you if you decide to try to realign it.

lonniejr

i've aligned them on older s-series trucks but not the new ones, but hopefully i can find a friend, although all of mine are lazy s*** heads

Future mods...wtf is a stage 2 chip? You cannot get chips for that it is an OBDII computer! Keep thermostat stock, get a spectre performance CAI and a $75 WFM tune and enjoy a whole bunch of new found HP for under $200 and call it a day.

If you have some real money to throw at it then upgrade camshaft, exhaust and experience even more HP...lol

I think the stage 2 chip you are looking at is for older TBI OBDI controlled vehicles...probably from tbichips.com huh? I think jet has them also but they are for OBDI vehicles as well. Computer tune is where it is at, stay away from all ebay crap advertising HP gains...things that will not work on your truck are Electric turbo chargers, Chips of any kind, Throttle body spacers, tornado's, magnetic fuel savers!

Nice truck and I look forward to watching you build it...do you plan on off roading it as well?

PS: When you are ready for your tune if you want some advice on what to ask for let me know, I had Jesse tune a bunch of S10's for me and know what works, otherwise he will just give you a standard tune.

lonniejr
07-14-11, 05:44 PM
ya im actually ready for my tune around next week, so i'll take any advice you can give me. as for the chip, i didn't know that a guy in town i was speaking to said he has a stage 2 chip for my year engine but i needed to upgrade my thermostat also, so i'll take your advice because honestly i dont know much about chips, first time owner to an OBDII system :( but happy with it lol. deffinately taking it off road as have in all my previous trucks, but i am not going to be doing rock crawling or anything that extreme, just trail riding, and such like that. the CAI you speak of i was already planning on getting, except going to make my own so i dont pay an arm and a leg. yes exhaust i am going to do, thought about dual exhaust from the manifolds with headers but thinking about just putting headers on, replacing cat with a high flow, and doing a cat back dual out system. as far as cam shaft goes, i probably will not be doing anything to that, but will be putting rolling rocker arms on, so i may do that sometime in the future? could go either way lol. thank you though i actually do like this truck a lot one of the newest i've ever owned, and am very pleased with the power it already has and the handling, and even more thrilled i got to stay with s-series trucks :)

Tune.

Have him do these things to it.

Increase shift speed
Raise 1-2 wot shift point 200rpm
Raise 2-3 wot shift point 300rpm
Leave 3-4 shift point stock

Bump up line pressure
Remove all torque management

Increase timing and adjust fuel curve for 93 octane, you will get better mileage so the extra cost of 93 will be a wash.

Raise rev limiter 500rpm, these motors can rev to 6000rpm's all day long, you wont ever see 6k with your shift points and stock camshaft but it leaves the door open if you decide on future mods.

Aftercat O2 delete (just do it) if you ever decide to eliminate the cat you will be all set.

EGR delete, you will not need a block off plate he will turn of the EGR VIA tune and you will no longer have exhaust gas circulating back into your motor causing carbon build up.

Remove top speed limiter...just because!

With these mods you will see a huge difference, it will be a whole new animal!

I would also suggest changing transmission filter and replacing the Dexron III fluid with Dexron VI fluid, it is a superior fluid in every category and adding a big transmission cooler!

If you start doing homework some people will tell you to leave in 20-25% torque management (BULLS**T) it is not needed!

It is there because GM reduced line pressure to let the clutches slip some during shifts so soccer moms and old people would have smooth seamless shifts, well when clutches slip they burn up so to keep that from happening GM decided to pull all kinds of timing during shifts to reduce over torquing the clutches...when you increase line pressure torque management is no longer needed.

Tell Jesse to remove all TM, it is everywhere, the motor has it as well as the transmission and even the air conditioner has it...people that dont believe me start poking around in EFI Live and you will find it, this crap not only effects performance in a big way it also effects gas mileage.

I have many many many wot upshifts on a stock transmission 60,000 miles worth to be exact on our Bravada will no ill effects, I have since added a Transgo HD2 shift kit and had to decrease line pressure VIA tune because the shifts would break your neck and the shift kit also increases the line pressure so I returned it back to stock in the tune.

Exhaust...headers are not really worth it on a stock motor and are problematic as far as leaks, cracks, ect. I would just stick with stock exhaust manifolds and have a custom Y-pipe made, the Y-pipe is one of the biggest restrictions, have an exhaust shop make you a Y-pipe with 2 1/4" down pipes and a 2 1/2" opening at the Y and run a 2 1/2 single exhaust to the muffler, then if you want duals run a single 2 1/2" in dual 2 1/2" out muffler and dual 2 1/2" pipes out the back, this will flow plenty for up to about 275hp, 300hp you need to start looking at 3" systems.

Take all my advice or non of it but like I said I have owned many S10's and found out what works and what does not the hard/expensive way as far as performance up grades go.

Your truck came with Dexron III it is a very good transmission fluid however GM pulled the license on it and replaced it with Dexron VI, like I said it is just a far superior fluid and the 4l60E transmissions love it.

Nothing needs to be replaced with increased line pressure in the tune. There are always better parts on the market for your transmission though, the sunshell is probably the weakest link but I do believe 1999 and newer transmissions have a better sunshell, it is not the Beast sunshell but I think the welds are stronger or something like that and they are less prone to failure.

You could always get the Billet servos, beast sunshell, better clutches, shift kit, ect, but I take into consideration that these same transmissions live behind V8 powered fullsize trucks and Suburbans so I doubt your little 4.3 liter is going to kill it, 99 times out of a 100 these transmissions fail because of heat not because of hard parts breaking.

Don't get me wrong hard parts can and do break but I have owned more than 10 S10's in my life and never had a transmission go bad on me but I install a cooler on all my vehicles as well as keep the fluid changed, that goes a long way.

Stay away from flushing machines and quick lube places to do this...do it yourself!

PS: If you have waitforme performance do the tune and have Jesse remove all the torque management he will increase the line pressure automatically to what works, he has done a million tunes and knows what works and what does not. Just send him your computer and $75 with the list I gave you and enjoy.

You can buy a computer from him with a tune of your choice programed in it for like $160 so you will not have downtime while waiting to get your tune however in 1998 and newer vehicles you will need to get a crank position relearn procedure done, this will require taking it to someone who has a GM TechII scan tool or a Snap ON Solus, any GM dealer can perform this procedure for you and should not charge more than 1/2 hour labor, it is a 10 minute job and should not cost more than $40 - $50, most dealers charge a minimum 1/2 hr labor fee. Your truck will run with the new computer before you get the crank position sensor relearn procedure done but may throw a check engine light, even if it does not throw a light you need to get this procedure done it is important...if you send in your computer to have a tune put on it you will (NOT) have to have the relearn procedure done.

id say... look at the campers info and see what it says the tounge weight is. my S10 says 300lbs (But its a 4banger)

i think you should paint match the plasty chrome i hate that stuff...

lonniejr
07-30-11, 09:37 PM
i thought about paint matching the entire grill thought it would look really good, but taupe(color of my blazer) hard color to find around town. and if i do then my bumper will be the only chrome on the truck

hey guys long time no post, sorry about that been busy, anywho so lately i have adjusted my step bars cut them down and welded them back together eventually will put them on, painted the front bumper black, painted the hooks pewter, put the reflector on, straightened the headlights, put blue tint on them, on the top i have added to off road lights, 155 watts a piece :) brighter then hell, eventually will add 2 more in the center of those 2. also i just got a new sub and amp, sub is a power accoustik mofo 15, and the amp is a digital audio dhc1604, has digital temperature and volt reading on the top with dual cooling fans, puts out a lot of power! sounds amazing and very very loud. dont have pics of sub and amp right now but will tomrrow. here pics of other stuff.

today i picked up some new rims and added a new filter, filter isn't permanent i plan on adding a pipe from the cap to the mafs and then a pipe to drop down into the hole where air box used to be for the filter. but for now this works. does look good though, kind of a RAM intake sort of thing, did notice a BIG difference all the same. and i even had a k&n air filter drop in, so im surprised heres a pic of the filter, throw a pic of rims up in bout half hour to hour

ya it does look better a lot better, do look a little silver though, i thinking the paint might have gotten to cold and the paint seperated in the can or something, not sure, so i'm gonna buy some more and try again, maybe that'll fix the problem. because i used the same can on the grill and its identical also with the door handle trim.

Looks to me its got more pearl in it than the factory paint has. Turn the flash off oN your camera on a nice sunny day and see if they match closer. Sometimes you can never get it to match 100% without fading it into the panels.

lonniejr
11-20-11, 05:20 PM
lol that sounds awesome, ya all night long for 4 hours we drove around in a foot of snow only once did i throw it in four, and that was to turn around it was amazing. then the rest of the night we went and did some snow drifting or playing lol

well i am currently working on a light bar, heres my progress? still trying to figure out how to mount it where the hooks are, but i want it to be easy to take off and put on, so im contemplating welding some exhaust clamps to the frame that it'll slide though over the hooks, that i just tighten and loosen to remove and put on. heres pics so far.

Jongo88
12-01-11, 10:15 AM
Where did you get the shackles from???

lonniejr
12-01-11, 01:47 PM
lol i think it sits level :\ i pulled it up on flat ground and it appeared level, in the pics its up on a cement slab for the garage, and the back end is on dirt swaying down hill, so that why im assuming its like that lol, and i got the shackles at o'reilly auto, freaked out at the manager and he apoligized returned old drop shackles, ordered the correct ones for free :) then re-embersed me for my gas to go down 35 bucks :) there pretty much 2 pieces of 3/8 or so fatter flat iron. not welded together or anything, 2 for each side, they seem pretty heavy duty, anywho i have some 1/2 flat iron hanging out the garage im gonna cut to width and weld on to the 2 pieces, that way i feel better about them, i'm not nervous as is, but hell always good to be safe then sorry.

lonniejr
12-01-11, 01:49 PM
oh and i can also raise the back probably another inch with the shackes, there is another whole on them, i'll post pics of the on the truck later today

Jongo88
12-01-11, 02:13 PM
I hope you drilled out the holes and used your old bolts.. Them bolts that they come with are way to small.
You really need to weld them togeather... They will fold over on you or break at the bolt holes...
I would never put them om my truck...

lonniejr
12-01-11, 09:01 PM
well from reviews i read they havn't dissapointed anyone yet, and a few people on blazer forum used them without problems also so i think if i weld them it'll be fine?

neo71665
12-01-11, 09:10 PM
99% of blazer forum is street queens that are only worried about looks. Very few functional off road trucks on that site.

lonniejr
12-01-11, 09:14 PM
oh, well i dont see what the difference is with them, the bolts are the same size, did not have to drill anything(yes im certain) and after i add the piece to it that i weld, how does it differ?

Jongo88
12-01-11, 09:14 PM
I wish you the best of luck...

lonniejr

Size does matter....
1535215351

lonniejr
12-01-11, 09:35 PM
ok, listen the shackles i have are THICKER metal then you have, the bolts going through it are the EXacT same size, no different, only thing it doesn't have is the cross member connecting the two sides, i plan on adding it myself.. now, after i do that will they be good enouph or no?

Jongo88
12-01-11, 09:38 PM
They have nice holes in them to break.... Do you see any holes in mine. Mine are 1/4 inch thick and so are yours. Mine are about three times as wide.....

lonniejr
12-01-11, 09:43 PM
mine are 2" wide, and 3/8" thick. i understand what your saying about the holes. i never thought of that, i will pick up some new ones next week or have a shop here in town make better ones. will these be suffice until then? sorry i was arguing i just couldn't figure out what you were saying. sorry for the shortness and arrogence, having a really bad evening.

Jongo88
12-01-11, 09:49 PM
I just don't want you to have the same problems that I had... I had a old truck that I was driving on a dirt road..
I was young and dumb and thought it was cool to power slide it on every turn. Next thing I know I was in a ditch.
I get out and gas is leaking out of the tank from the shackle going through it... Now I'm 30 miles out in the woods broke down.. This is before cell phones... That was a very long walk...

Jongo88
12-01-11, 09:58 PM
You will be ok on the street as a Street queen truck.....:)

lonniejr
12-01-11, 10:00 PM
i understand the concern, and really do thank you for your help and advice, im not a queen :( i dont wanna be, i thought these would be good :(

neo71665
12-01-11, 10:26 PM
We really aint dogging on ya just trying to save ya from headaches. Often it costs more for good parts compared to cheap parts. Figure in the cost of the cheap parts and having for fix them later on anyways its better to buy the good ones from the start.

lonniejr
12-02-11, 05:18 PM
i thought these were good ones because they were so thick and such, but i understand what you guys are saying, i guess it was just being impatient and wanted a lift already so i could go play sooner. :(

Jongo88
12-02-11, 05:36 PM
I know what your sayin... You want it now... I wish the auto parts stores would carry some good ones...
I have the big problem with the wait too so I know how you feel.
When I did mine I made them at work out of scrap so as soon as I got home I could install them...
How do you like it so far??

lonniejr
12-02-11, 05:39 PM
honestly, its only 2" but it feels so much higher driving it, get in it is easier, and i clear SO MUCH more stuff, its not much but i can clear things now i couldn't before which is awesome, cant wait for 31's either, that will be exciting also.

Jongo88
12-02-11, 05:44 PM
I had to do a body lift to run 31's.. The front tires will rub the back of the front finder when you turn... sucks.

lonniejr
12-02-11, 06:52 PM
really? that blows, when i first bought the blazer i had 31's i sat on it and they didn't rub when turning unless i hit bumps or something so figured they fit now :( will 30/9.5/15's fit?

neo71665
12-02-11, 11:51 PM
The new found height feeling will soon wear off and you'll be looking at other lifts. I know I been buying parts and John might not own up but he's been looking at kits. Its a never ending process and doesn't help when you hang around on a site looking at a truck like Tinks, lol.

lonniejr
12-03-11, 01:16 AM
i figured, and i am already looking at other lifts, was thinking about doing a 5" suspension lift down the right, nothing soon. then i can remove the torsion crank and the shackles, and have bigger tires. :)

lonniejr

Please tell me that your power wire doesn't run through your door jamb. Extremely dangerous and there is a spot right under the hvac box on the firewall on the passenger side to run it safely through. Otherwise nice looking truck.

lonniejr
01-10-12, 10:07 PM
lol yes it was for a little bit, i have other wise relocated it, going through the hole in the floorboard underneath the passenger side carpet, pretty, safe, and hidden. lol that was only temporary

today i got a new front license plate :) and my fans came so i put them on, took me 3 hours to get the old fan off stupid crack wouldn't come free. then another hour to put the electric fans on and wire them up, tomorrow i gotta buy some wire shroud stuff to pretty the wires up. and i havn't quite decided about whether or not i am going to put the top of the fan shroud back on but cut down, so its still pretty right there and you cant see the top of the radiator. also do you guys keep your lower radiator support in or no? anywho, here you go people pics.
one with the license plate on :) its so pretty it reads " death or liberty, Dont tread on me"
http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb339/ashleyholdaway/IMG_10911.jpg
the fans just took them out of the box, along with the zip tie things to hold everything together.
http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb339/ashleyholdaway/IMG_10921.jpg
now the fans on and all put together and wired up.

There is nothing holding the rad in... One good bump and it's out of there.. The ac line will get cut too...

No shroud so the fans only pull air in the small area they cover and not the entire surface.

lonniejr
01-13-12, 12:08 AM
so no shroud, ok. also i used those zip tie things to hold the radiator in place :) figured why not you can see them in each corner.

trimming my fenders on monday, hope it goes well and looks good :( i was thinking about painting the fender flares black, just mask it off etc, but the back ones i cant quite think of where to block mask it off in the front for it to look good, or the back of it because it flows into the bumper, suggestions?

lonniejr
01-16-12, 12:49 AM
today i cut down the top fan shroud and put it on, looks factory from the front then the back side you can see the fans, also put my heat shield back on, not quite done though going to paint it, and put the rubber seal on the top and in the hole the pipe goes through, also painting the intake pipe.

the stripes or the moulding? or both?

Jay-Sliver
01-31-12, 10:32 PM
Don't do the stripes.....well, do what you want, its YOUR truck. I'm not a fan of them.

As for the flared parts of the fenders, i have always wondered what mine would look like with a different color bottom, using the flared edge as the speration point.

lonniejr

well i'm certain i'm doing the moulding. because it'll protect the bottom part of the truck better then the factory paint, specially here. and deffinately offraodding when i get stuck and throw rocks spinning. as for the stripes im not usually a fan but i was thinking of things i could do on the hood to kind of pop the front a little more. but couldn't think of anything other then stripes ya know? maybe hood scoops. not sure thugh.

so for weeks now my driver side wheel bearing has been going bad but havn't had the money, so i have been ignoring it. well finally today i had the money yay! so i called the parts store, tomorrow morning at 9:30 it will be here, so i go to leave my house and run to the store for a pack of smokes, all of a sudden i here a crunch and it feels like the tire is truely going to fall off, so i limp it back home and into my garage, only couple hundred yards away. i get out and jack up the truck and what the hell. 3 lugs nuts and almost ready to fall off, one of the lug nuts is still tight, well sort of(rims crooked) and one of the lug nuts is missing along with the stud it was attached to. what the hell how did the stud break. anywho how the hell do my lugs come loose, seriously and one break like that. i always torque my lugs to 100lbs.

so. . . . my rear brakes finally needed a change, the other day i went and bought some pads, got home and tore it apart. the bracket the caliper attaches to(the part that goes around the rotor) has two pin types bolts in it that are support to slide correct? yes because all of them do but ONE. . . . stupid crap the thing is seized in the hole pounded on it for a good hour at minimum, and let it sit for 2 days in pb, then pounded it again. still seized stupid junk. now i have to buy a whole new bracket. . retarded right. yes! and my local auto parts store doesn't carry them. what ever shall i do. . . . also finally got the new radiator, my old one was cracked. don't have pictures right now, but this is the same one i bought. http://www.andysautosport.com/chevrolet/1998_9999_blazer/performance/radiator/radiators/tyc/

got a side view picture of the painted wheel well moldings? I was gonna suggest to use the 3m thin masking tape for that little project! it is real flexible and perfect for that kinda job! That is what i used when i painted my wheel flares and it was great!
