Is there any differences between 96 and 98+ Blazer overhead consoles?
And what are they? Length / design?

I am refering to the long overhead consoles with 4 pivot lights, garagedoor opener and sunglass holders, and dome light. OH dont forget the compass and temp .

To my knowledge the only difference in consoles is between the full-length and short ones.

I used a 97 in mine, but I'm not sure which year they added the 'MODE' button that cycles through fuel economy and a few other readings from the OBDII computer.

i'm 95% sure that the one in my 93 first gen is also the same. i just dont have the temp/compass or the extra set of map lights in the back. other than that its the same

So the difference is the electronic options then. 2nd gen with compass/temp . 3rd gen with mode button for fuel ecnomy / trip. Thanks guys.
Now just to be 100% sure.

I have the fuel econ/trip/etc in my shorty '98, so if Matt's 97 didnt have them Id guess they added them for 98.

It can be done as this is the reason im asking for my S10 not my Jimmy.
To my understanding is gather all the wiring and harness along with the console from the donor vehicle. The temp sensor is located in the grille and the main harness to the fuse box/panel. I am not sure if everything just plugs in or if you have to splice wires. I have to put this project on hold as for i got a $150.00 photo radar (speeding) ticket. No $$ for the console now.

not sure about the install, but im almost positive that the wiring is only power. everything else is internal.

Not really. The only real diff is the display. Some came with just temp and compass, others came with temp, compass, miledge, trip etc... Other than that they're all the same. (oh and newer ones came with a homelink module instead of the hollow garage door opener compartment)
