View Full Version : Leaning Tire- Adjusting the cam bolts?
I discovered the left front tire on my '89 S15 leaning out at the top. After looking at it, it looks like the cam washers on the A-arms rear mount have shifted, from a hard bump I guess. Anyway, how hard is this to adjust? Can I just loosen up the bolt move it back or is there something I'm not taking into account? Thanks for any help.

The camber is adjusted with shims between the upper control arm shaft and the frame mount. The washer thingy on the bolt head is just there to stop it from spinning when you tighten the nut on the other side. You can try adding some shims and aligning it by eye but you're probably better off taking it to an alignment shop. If you really want to attempt it yourself google DIY alignment. It can be done but it seems complicated and time consuming to me - I'd rather pay the $50 or so to have it done correctly and forget about it.

save your self the trouble and peace of mind, take it to the alignment shop.
I'm thinking I'll take it to a shop, just don't have the money right now. I'm not seeing these shims, on the truck or in exploded views. It's a 4x4, does that change anything?
Edit: just check my Chilton's manual and it says its adjusted with the cams, but it doesn't say how to go about doing it.

Sounds like your upper control arm rubber bushing inserts are rotted out and fell apart. The rears on 4.3 in the uppers are notorious from exhaust heat. Mine started at 60k miles. Replaced with greasable fitting UBMachine uppers and no worries ever again of tht
