View Full Version : Cold air intake questions
I've been searching for the elusive eBay cold air intake with a heat shield. My question is, does the heat shield really make a difference? Most of the kits chromeintakes sells don't have a heat shield.

It will make a difference but I seriously doubt that it will be huge since the heat sheild will get hot as well. If you're truly concerned about it you could make your own like Lee (Bootleggers Deluxe) did.

Those of you who have installed the eBay kits, how is the quality of the filter that is included?

Your likely better off to go buy a cheap name brand cone from the parts store and run it, instead of the one the kit supplies.

I am curious if anyone monitored IAT with a scanner between stock, chromeintakes, and ebay one with the shield to see if there was a difference. Maybe someone has, I am kind of a newb around here. Still reading and learning through the archives :)

I had B4 with my JET tuner. Had update with real time scan feature.
Basically was average of 2* drop. I cut out the rectangle opeining behind the drivers headlamp to allow more airflow and netted about 1 more degree drop. All were on 'like' days of cooler weather. I was going to try also adding some heat reflectant/absorbant material to the back of the heat sheild which would also fill in more gap in sheild tube hole and more around the edges. Got some finally from a friend who had some leftover. But at this point I have not tried it. Besides, I lost my data on it and would have to start all over again with the testing.
I plan on using that for my supercharger tubes when I get that installed later this year. So I doubt I will do it.
Oh and I also have my IAT moved farther down
