TrAck man track, drag, circle, autocross??

I've ran everything from a reg cab swb, lwb, ex cab in both and 2 and 4 door blazers in the 1/8th mile. The longer it is the more it will keep the nose down but also weighs more. If its a full cage truck I like ex cabs just for the room to work in and the cage takes up less space.

Guy up the road from me has a 2nd gen ex cab with a ls6 built, full cage, custom linked back half that runs high 6s on a small shot. Even runs a heavy fiberglass shell on the back to cover the bars in the back glass cause its still street legal.

I was hoping that it would be a good deal,I said it was a full cage-I meant it has the full inside with the 2 bars out back-he said it needed just the 2 front bars coming out If I wanted those.the bars out back are through the back glass.I am sorry that I misunderstood a full cage.

There are different types of cages, 4, 6, 8, and 12 point. Depending on the aimed class and track rules. If the points are not tied to the frame the cage is about worthless and good tracks won't even accept it. It gets into more than that also, cage materials, thickness, design, and all kinds of other stuff.

If its jsust something he threw together from pipe he got at lowes it won't be for much but looks.

This is the truck that I got for 500.00 it does have the blocks under it where the bars go through and welds into the blocks and then to the frame. Its got some surface on the hood but, heck I live down south.LOL

I see like the bars have plates on some but, when i looked under the truck i seen the blocks welded in on some.

I hope it was a good deal.??

I think the cage has to physically tie to the frame....If I had to guess, the cage is welded to the plate, which is welded to the Floor. The blocks under the cab are welded to the floor and frame, if I am understanding you correctly.. Tech garages require the cage to be welded directly to the frame if I recall correctly.

It also depends what wall thickness and material the cage is made of..

I think thats it jay -I will get more pics underneath it-I know it aint alot for me to start with but,its better than my maverick was and I can get parts for these.I forgot to tell yall-we have about 6 upullit yards around us(in Ms,Mobile,Al,)if yall need mee to check stuff sometimes -will be glad to help and ship parts.

They can be welded like that as long as there has been a hole drilled in the floor and a tube welded inside the top bar so it slides into the inside of the bottom bar. Again this depends on the class it was built for and the rules in it.

Best thing for ya to do is get the tech book and figure out how much you want to spend and how fast you wanna go.

Yeah I agree 100%-I hope this is what they did-I will look into it more and let you know.I should have the truck here in few days hopefully.

Depends on what track you go to, or how fast you want to go. that cage actually doesnt look bad. On that particular one I think only 4 points have to go to the frame, the rest can be welded to the floor. You should be good to 7.00(1/8) with a harness, seat, and helmet. Dont forget a fire extinguisher. Im gunna build something similar soon for mine, but I plan to bolt it to the frame so I can still pull the cab when I want.

Yeah I think you are right about being to the frame-I just got the truck here today and started checking things over-it looks pretty good shape -the body has some surface rust but no dents and any holes so I think I can work with it.My fingers are crossed.

Um....just a quick question about your primer.....

Did you lay down an Etching Primer down on the bare steel before you layed down your gray primer? eing the son of a licensed body man, generally grey primer will not stick or adhere to bare steel properly, and will over time begin to peel. Etching primer is usually layed down very thin, and is yellow or red in color.
