Can you R&R an AC condenser without tearing apart the grill on an '03 S-10?

I was hoping to remove the top section that holds the rad in place and get it from there....

Is this possible?

OK, the AC shop didn't flush the condenser good enough and now it cools intermittently and they are blaming the condenser for having a restriction.

The compressor job is all under warranty do if they refuse to back flush it really good, I'm going to make them replace everything after I install a new condenser.

Condensers aren't that expensive are they?

Compared to compressors, no... But when you factor-in that it's a given you'll also be replacing the accumulator/receiver-drier as a natural part of the job, the cost sure starts shootin'-up!

I would be checking the O-tube before I go replacing the condenser..... It dont take much to plug up the O-tube.

Agreed... It's usually the simpler stuff that makes a big effect on something like A/C.

Yeah, they blamed it on the O-tube (my good deal smart vov) but it's working now after they putin an OE fixed o-tube.

They handed me my smart vov that was in there, and it appeared to have a little black gunk on it so they prolly didin't flush the system out good the first time...although the tech swore up-n-down that he did.

Anywho, she's coolin good now...except sitting at a traffic light where fixed o-tubes suck!

You have to remove the radiator to do the condenser. Not to hard...

What problems are you having?

Sorry, I should have been more clear in my most recent post....

They did my AC rebuild for me, including installing smart vov, but it wasn't cooling good cause the high side was getting up to 350 prolly due to a restriction in the condenser.

I took it back, and they said it was the smart vov (which I don't think it was, cause when they removed the part it had gunk on it as though the condenser wasn't flushed good) and they installed an OE fixed o-tube...now she's cooling good....

No need to mess with condenser after all, thank God!

I'd like to know more about that "smart"-vov... That, along with the Taurus 2-spd fan, sound like ideal upgrades to make.

The Taurus fan draws too much juice from what I hear, which is why I'm going to be using dual SPAL fans

The AD-244 will fix that problem.

I thought about 'em...but just couldn't bring myself to put a FORD part on a CHEVROLET..."

But, I can understand why somebody would want to put CHEVROLET parts on a FORD...
