looking buying stock posi rear end need help

this guy wants to sell me a stock posi rear end from 4:10 geard rear end its already been takin out he says the ring gear broke but the mehcanic said it was still good my Question is what is it worth and how much it would cost to put it in and if its really worth it ... i dont want to waste my time and gas to drive out there and pick it up if its really not worth my time and money and hes only asking like 40 buks for the part..any help would be apreciated

I'd pass. If it's out of an S it's a gov lock. Prone to failure. They may have thought the ring gear broke because of the tell-tale holes in the cover. Nope, gov-loc blew out.

Save your money, get a new posi unit or buy a used zexel. Zexels are hard to wear out.

well i went and checked it out .. he has a normal rear end in good condition and and extra 4:10 gear with the posi lock in it or w.e the gear is blown so im guessing i can probly buy another gear or just throw mine on and enjoy the posi ...not really sure what im gonna do as of right nowbecause im spending 400 buks on a set of new pro comp rims..does anyone know what i can get for a 98 front grille and rear bumper and ill probly have a workin rear end for sale soon .. and does anyone know wut the top speed would be or avg if i put 4:10 gears.. im more of a motor guy transmission and driveline is new to me

If the ring gear truly cracked, I'd be worried about carrier runout. If the surface the gear mounts on is not parallel (easily bent on a 7.5") you're gonna have backlash problems. It'll be .008" in one spot and .002" (or worse) in another.

Proceed with caution.

As far as top speed, if you put the full-throttle 3-4 upshift valve in the trans., with the 4.10 gears, you'll see around 135 at 5000 rpms depending on tire size. Provided you have the power to get there.

its not cracked but mabey 5 or so teeth were chipped off .. dumbass was probly doin burnouts or something... so i dont think its bent .. juss looks like bad install from the start.. but im limited on wut i know ..
