Computers suck!!

LOL

Anyways, my desktop had issues and I have gone as far as I can on upgrades. Its all good now but this Sprint aircard BS sux for connection speed. Sprint really needs to come clean on it. My desktop at home, at work and my laptop at home and work doenst have very good speed....anywhere!
So thats my Sprint rant for the moment.

Well, the laptop my GF gave me that had issues I had got fixed...or so I thought. I bought a new battery for it also. But it lasted a couple months and now the same video problem presist. I think we narrowed it down to the actual video card/chip and not the screen. But thats a part of the Mobo on a laptop and hence a costly and quite franly a repair I dont care for. So I am looking into a cheap refub Dell or someting. I have a buddy who fixes old laptops but has noithing rt now that I could use.

Going back on the desktop issue and to my point of this thread.
I have access to a Dell Precision 340.
The precision series is listed as a 'Workstation' and not a PC. Inside its just similar to my Dimension 4400 and has normal looking internals.
My question is can a 'workstation' be used as a personal PC at my home?
T
hing has like 4 memory slots and IIRC takes up to 4G which is huge compared to my 4400 1G max. The processor could be a dual core which I understand will allow for eaier multi tasking.
Its a 03 computer, I dont know details of this particular machine other than it has USB 2.0 which my 4400 does not ( I added a PCI expansion card for USB 2.0 ), has no 'cards' in it but has some slots for it, I think it has onboard video card and onboard sound card.
Would it work for me f I added a few things?
Thx

Imma try get the exact model ID tag from it but here is the basic specs
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ws340/en/ug/1specs.htm#1036740

My old Dim4400 started out a 1.7G P4 with slower FSB, 512k Mem, stad GForce vid card, a modem, an ethernet adqapter, 80gHDD, CDRW.
I added a DVDRW, upped the memory to 1G max, added a nice vid card from ATI Radeon, the USB 2.0 adapter card and a 2.20G P4 which is one step under biggest available for it. Cantg go any bigger and any w/ 533fsb wont run.

Hell, if all your doing is surfing the net and watching por....anything will work.

What all are you trying to do with it? Wont be any good for gaming, onboard sound and graphics cards are pretty basic..

The Dell Precision can be used the same as a Desktop. Looks like you can upgrade the video to a decent agp card...;)

If you give me the serial number off the back, I can give you exact options. How much memory does the Precision have? Another option would be to stick a new mainboard in your old desktop. www.geeks.com (http://www.geeks.com)
