1996 sonoma 2.2 5 speed, 12x,xxx miles. truck started when my boy got off work, but after he stopped at a friends it wouldn't start. i went yesterday and brought it home with a tow dolly. just for sh!ts and giggles i tried it, and it started right up. pulled it on the dolly, towed it home, then it wouldn't start to pull off the dolly. cranks good, tank is nearly full. everything i know is saying pump. thoughts?

When the pump is going bad or has gone bad it wouldn't start at all, if it did it would be hesitant to start. My guess is the fuel pump relay is going bad, what leads me to believe this is as follows.
The symptoms of a fuel pump relay going bad are random dying and possibly not restarting after truck has been started, When it dies or doesn't start, you need to check to see if you have power going to the fuel pump at the harness connector at the tank, no power means the relay is gone, power means the fuel pump is gone.

It's typical for the GM in-tank pump to fail around 130k. My '94's managed to last 165k... but that was still more than 130k, which is about when it's due for replacement.
