I'm suspicious that it's not in quite as good a shape as it looks for that price! This part of the country is notorious for the nice sheet metal + rotten broken frame...

The best way is get drunk come up with an idea then see what you have layin around and build it with what you have...
Thanks Mikz86TA. :)
Is it on the Bronco frame or just has the axles? Wondering about the motor too... that would do it for me... Ford motor in a Chevy would be blasphemy. The Dana 44 isn't Ford specific and the 9" rear lots of people use.

Most guys that sas s10s use jeep or ford axles. They are the only ones that have the drivers side diff and you don't have to swap out t-case. The ford and dodge guys search for chevy dana knuckles to run cause they had flat tops that are easy to machine down to run cross over.
Aint no telling what axles came out of in the 4x4 world. Now the motor if its a ford in that dime I say we burn it now.
I personally been looking for a late 70s ford 250 with a high pinion dana 60. Figured as long as I'm building the blazer I might as well do what I want the first time and put it on one tons with 8 lugs.

bah. you're all being closed minded ... i say run what runs best ... if that happens to be a Buick 455 in your Duster with a 9" out back, more power to you ...
As long as it has Chevy power under the hood, it gets an awesome vote from me. Hell, any gm powerplant with 8 cylinders would be fine by me. :p

I really don't have any issues with Chevy powered Fords, it's an awesome set up. Hot rods out the yang yang are built this way, If there was a Ford 9" already set up for an S10, you bet, I'd jump on it. (that was affordable.)
Just goes to show that Ford power is mis matched with the rest.

hehehe, I didn't think this thread would stir the pot so much! I learned to drive in a 1980 bronco with a 351M and then transitioned right into s-series stuff so it's all the same to me!
Well, I would never use a Ford motor in a wheeler... the distributor is in a horrible place! I did a lot of mud pit wheeling in NY and seen many Fords get towed because of water in the distributor.

Yeah I just don't get that, some guy came in the store with a 572 in a 70 or 71 Cuda, hack job at that, I said how the heck? I told him the motor was worth more than his car, he called me a few names and left with smoke coming off the tires, the moron.I had pictures of this beast but I don't know what I did with it dang it.

I'd drop a BBC into a Ford. Yep. I would gladly sacrifice a good engine to make sure it got far enough into the lake I land in when I drive that turd off a cliff. A Ford engine couldn't get it up to the proper speed.....

Hotrod still ain't the same as a mud truck.
Hotrod=fast on the street/track
Mud truck=slow off road in the mud
Fast through the mud= Mud Rod
All fun but not the same.
I'm gonna by Pam a Ford as punishment for losing my Blazer.

You're right I couldn't do that to my son anyways. He'll have to ride in it too and I don't want him to have to be stranded on the side of the road somewhere.

Mud rod, lol
I've seen plenty of these that do 10 second 1/4s and still handle well off and on road. Not gonna win a road race in them but very few old muscle cars would even do that. The true hot rods were designed for stop to top speed in a straight line. Very few were designed to stop from that speed.
The g machines are a modern thing.
Tink hit the nail on the head. We can't help it ford and dodge designed their engines bass ackwards. Always a fun time to see some hot head bragging about his ford have to get the waterlogged thing towed out of a pit. Even more so when they spend 20 minutes digging out silicone before they can even get the cap off to let it dry out. Something is always wrong when a required tool at the track is a hair dryer.

ok ... yeah ford put the distributors in a bad place ... a curse in high water is also a blessing to the firewall :D
I personally just pick the best of whatever i see ... i've been researching putting a 6.2 in my silver Ford just due to the power to weight ratio ... but i've also been eyeballing 6.1 hemis ...

If I were to really discuss the "what is a hot rod" subject and not just BS. Then what I think a "hotrod" is, would be a 32 Ford coupe, Chevy Roadster, a Tbucket or some similar old roadster type that is built for the straight away.
I've heard some consider anything with a hot cam a "hotrod". I disagree though.
When I hear "hot rod" the last thing that comes to mind is a rock crawling Jeep.

I'm not going to touch the subject of "what is a hot rod" ... that definition differs with every person ...

BBC in a Ford just to drive it off a cliff..? I'm slightly offended since I'm dropping the big block into the '53 (FORD).. hmmm.
BTW, I hope nobody's definition of hot rod involves 'throbbing'.
