Well i raced my my brother this morning, street race. He drives a 1996 Chevy Cheynne 1500 w/ 5.7L (350) k&n drop in filter and cat back exhaust. He has a 3.42 one wheel peeler and I have 3.42 posi. My 2001 4.3L L35 only has k&n drop in, air box mod, and tps mod. His truck is reg cab, long box and mine is extended cab, step side. Just to put things in perspective.
Well we lined up on the highway, he counted it off. I started doing a brake stand a secound before GO! ( donno if this is good or bad, as for i havent raced b4)
We took off, he slowly got about his truck length ahead of me. By about 90kilometers/hour we were accelerating dead even right up to 160k/h when both our governers hit just over a quarter mile. He thinks we would of been closer if i didnt do a brake stand. I donno. I think thats pretty good for my little truck, now just to get the wynjammer s/c. Whats your guys takes on the whole thing to racing stratgey to how i did?

good to warm up your tires, but not good for traction. gotta find the right RPM to take off at.

yea. yopu don't want your tires to spin before you leave the line because it makes it harder for them to grip. best thing to do is brake-torque it to the point where your tires are just about to break loose then let off the brake and wait till you get to about 5 mph then punch it. this way you won't have problems with tire spinning as much. just my experience with my truck though.

My opinion from my many trips to strip. I don't have traction problems (got sticky tires, traction bars and heavier in the rear) I used to hold the brake and mash the gas a little to about 1500 to 2000 rpm. An experinced guy told me not to that on the next run which was back to back, so I didn't and noticed .1 gain. He told me that heats the heads up hotter and loads the motor up with fuel. Then when you take off you don't the result you thought you would get. Now, just before the green I bring rpm up a little to about 1000 rpm Max. If you have automatic, its not a good idea to bring rpm up too high or hold it too long. It will slow you down.

If you go all the way against the "stall" of the converter, you lose the advantage of "hitting" the stall, so to speak.

The stock converter in a V-6 stalls (with good brakes) about 1600. You would want to launch at 1000-1200 in order to give the motor a little lead (and move the vehicle a little) before "hitting" the converter. When looking for results in your leave, look only at the 60'. Any spinning, discard the 60' time. Improvements as low as .02 can result in shaving .1 of total ET. See my 60' article here http://www.sicgmtrucks.com/forum/article.php?a=140

Says it was written by Admin. NOT!

Getting a higher stall converter will yield fantastic results for any vehicle.
