over the weekend i am going to install 6 1/2 seperates in my doors. i want to put the tweeter at the very top where the fabric is. my question is does anyone know a good way to cut thru the fabric without damaging the surrounding area and then once it is cut to keep it from unravelling? i am thinking of clear silicone/rtv applied lightly around the hole. what do you audiophiles think?
thanx!!!

start with a drill bit and an exacto blade. mark where you need to cut for the tweeter, and cut it a touch smaller, this way if any fraying does happen, you can find a way to push it through the hole behind the tweeter. never played with the fabric on the doors, but if it frays take a ligher to it, see how it reacts (most will have nylon in them and melt) also a hole saw will work well on it. just take your time and be sure to not crack the plastic.

the fabric wont fray. Its glued on there good. Just cut through it all w/ a hole saw.

the easy way would be .
drill a pilot hole from the front in the place you want to mount them .
take the door panel off , then using a hole saw cut out the hole from the back side using the pilot hole you already drilled .
once through the plastic stop .
if you have not cut through the fabric you will want to peel off any leftover plastic .
then cut an X in the fabric using a rasor blade . flod the fabric back and glue it down to the back side .
if you did cut through the fabric dont worry about it , just use the flush mount ring and it will hide any imperfections .
have fun . and take your time .
