Muncie???

I picked up a tranny from the junkyard out of a 2003 s-10 and it ahs a barcode on the side that says Muncie. Now correct me if im wrong but i thought the s-10's only came w/ New Ventures. it looks a hell of a lot beefier than my stock NV 1500, but looks like it mounts up the same way, ill be installing it tomorrow.

Muncie, Indiana is where the manual transmission plant is. Where the M in M21 and M22 came from. It's a New Venture made at the Muncie plant.

okay thanks guys, yea i figured theres no way i had some special one off muncie tranny for my 4 cyl. ill let you guys kno how the tranny swap went after its installed and tested

Over the years New Venture Gear had eaten parts of Getrag up and then merged and eaten by Muncie which offically its called Manual Transmissions of Muncie. So its the New Venture transmission made by Manual Transmissions of Muncie. Lost yet?? Gotta love the merging going on today!

yea i get what ur sayin, we just got the tranny out and inspected the clutch, its in damn good shape to be having 250,000 miles on it, after lunch were gonan bolt up the new one, gotta love that GM innovation of putting bolts in places where mens hands arent meant to go!

well i got the whole install done 30 mins before i had 2 be at work, i forgot how nice it is to drive with all of the synchros working, biggest pain in the ass in the world doin it so quick to drive to work, but tomorrow im gonna go back and re torque all the bolts.

GM alone has had so many take overs "mergers" over the years it would be very hard to keep count of just how many companies it has had it's hands in over the years.Just look up GMC trucks history to see how it become GMC trucks owned by GM.

How many gears does it have?

it has 5 forward gears and 1 reverse, same as it had before
