NGK Iridium plugs gone to ****. A week ago I had 2 plug wires that were laying on my header tubes which resulted in misfiring. A small hole was burned into each wire but not all the way thru to the conductor. I bought a long msd wire and cut it to make 2 new ones. Also bought Taylor plug boot protectors and some wire looms to keep everthing in its place. Misfire was still there. It was dark outside and I checked for arching and saw a light show. Arching to everthing metal that a wire was touching. Pulled a plug and found the electrode was worn down a little to cause the gap to now be just over .070 (.060 spec). The arc was going thru the ceramic and to the base of the plug. I pulled all of them and found that they are all like that. Advanced auto parts didn't list a plain ac delco plug so I bought NGK plain old v power plugs. Its been running great since then. Last night it was running great also, this morning it was hard to start and started the misfiring all over again. I am going to pull a plug and see what it looks like.
I didn't buy the factory ac delco platinum because they are $6 each and didn't want to trash those too if something was wrong. Plus at the time, I couldn't spend that much that week.
Anybody have any problems with the NGK Iridium plugs. Any recomendations on plugs.

not sure about those plugs but i had a problem with plug fouling and then i started using ac delco rapid fire (about $4.50) and i have had no problems with them.

Can you get these plugs at an auto parts store? Are they platinum or just plain plugs.
I pulled the easy plugs out yesterday and they are ok. I think I forgot to set the gap on one of them. Before I pulled the plugs I started it up again and it ran beautifully. I have no idea what is going on. I disconnected the msd box and hooked up just the coil and it didn't run so well. Its a new msd coil. I think I am going to save my money and not put anything into it any more and just save up for a 350. I'm about over trying to get HP out of electronics.
I heard something a while back about Accel caps being junk. Is that true? About 3 or 4 months ago I bought Accel cap and rotor from summit and asked them if they had any returns on them for problems, of course they said, "no its a great cap and rotor set".

The plain old Delcos are the best for our trucks.

^^^i have fouled out a few of "plain old delco plugs" too. the rapidfires ARE the only plugs that i can find thatdon't get fouled out within a month. you can get them anywhere. i get mine at autozone. they are platinum i believe.
oh yea, and the rapidfires are cheaper than the stock platinum plugs that our trucks came with..

I have had good luck with the Denso Iridium plugs in my truck and the wifes Sunfire. I have had them in there for about 20-25,000 miles and they haven't fouled out yet. I am also running an MSD 6AL, Blaster coil, and MSD 8.5mm Super Conductors.

my buddy has run them on his 02 blazer and they fouled out twice in 6 months. he has a full msd ign too. send him a message he is xtremeblzr2002.

I ran Denso Iridium plugs in my TA the whole time I owned it and that was HARD miles.Plus they held up fine with the nitrous.I have NGK V's in my S10 now and I love them.
My plugs are autolite double platnim i believe and I have yet to have a problem.

Thanx for all your experiences and opinions guys.
Damn truck is running great again.
I think I am going to check into those delco rapidfires.

Question I just thought about???? What exactly is so good about platinum and iridium??? Is it that,.... being the metal is harder the plug will last longer or for better conductivity and spark...or both?
Irridium: Melting point 4449.2 F , Strength 159 Kpsi , Electrical resistance 2-3/32 , Hardness 240
Platinum: Melting point 3216.2 F , Strength 19.9 Kpsi , Electrical resistance 4-11/16 , Hardness 40
Nickel: Melting point 2647.4 F , Strength 96.5 Kpsi , Electrical resistance 2-11/16 , Hardness 160
"NGK iridium plugs represent the ultimate evolution of spark plug technology and performance. The iridium center electrode is both stronger and harder than platinum. This allows NGK engineers to design an ultra-fine (0.6mm)center electrode reducing the voltage requirement for spark. This allows for a brighter, stronger spark from your existing ignition system. The ground electrode has a tapered cut at the firing end which reduces quenching for better flame core growth and increased ignitability. The combination of fine wire center electrode and tapered cut ground will increase performance, improve acceleration, and fuel efficiency."
