I was thinkin about gettin a 2000+ s10 because i have $4500 but i want to mod my motor and i won't have any money left after purchasing the truck. So should i get a newer one and wait to mod it or should i get a 1991-1993 s10? I want to get an older one and supercharge it with the money i dont spend on the truck. Just tell me what u think

I like the gen1's myself. Look for one with a sound body especially around the fender wells and top of the fenders around the antenna area. They are bad to rust in this area. You may end up spending all your extra money on body work if you don't find a good one.
the outher plus about about a 1st gen is less emision stuff to deal with.

on the other hand, if you get a older one(which i am fond of too) the engine may be mostly shot and when you put a supercharger on it you may have to spend more money on an engine.

Good point. So go with a v8 swap. Cams and some of the other internals a way cheaper for a 350 than the 4.3l.

My dad won't let me get a V8, I am not even 16 yet and a 350 in an s10 for my first truck would be too much he says. He is soon gettin a 350 in his 2003 s10. I want to race some of my friends with new trucks and smoke them with my v6.

i would get newer and save. this way the engine is most likely in better condition and the 4.3 after 96 are better motors anyways. well, unless you're partial to tbi.

I personaly like the 1st gens over the 2nd gens. Only problem with the 1st gens is they are getting old! But ya, a 91-93 with a 4.3 and some good performance parts and you'll have a sweet truck. Even sweeter if you build up a nice little 355 or 383 for it then dropped her 4/5 or whatever

def go with a firstgen. they are so much easier to work on. i also read an article in sport truck magazine that they got 300 hp out of a 4.3 tbi. not too bad for a 4.3. of course they put a lot into the motor but you could do a decent motor build up with $2000.
find a first gen for around $1000, spend about $1000 on paint and body, and then sink the rest into motor.
good luck!

I am going to spend about $3000-$4000 on one in perfect condition and that possibly has a few mods all ready done. But DEFINENTLY goin with 4.3

1st gen = LOW DOLLAR HOTROD
just like Crazy91 (should be crazy93 now) get a truck for 1-1500, do up the body and paint, lower it (if you wanted) then just spend the rest on the engine. you can easily be into a sweet truck for 4000

very true. i prolly put about $2500 into my truck and that includes what i paid for it. not to brag but i thought it looked pretty damn good for the amount of money i put into it!!
and yeah i should be changed to crazy93 now
