View Full Version : installing efan
btw i would like to say thanks for all your previous help to all. okay im in the process of installing my flexalite 210. first problem is busting the torque on the clutch fan retaining nut(its not the four bolts only and out it comes im used to). second is since the shroud doubles as the radiator holder do i have to cut the shroud or will it fit and if it fits will it flow properly with the shroud in tact.
thanks alot

The way to remove the fan is to get an adjustable wrench and a big hammer to knock it loose. Its the big nut in the center and it comes off counter clockwise. Make sure you leave the belt on otherwise it will spin freely. As far as the radiator mounting point, you could cut your shroud, but tou won't be able to re-use it if needed. Here is how I had mine set up until the $10 fan shot craps and now I back to stock for now. If I remember right, the plate was 26" X 6" (width is the same as the stock shroud) with a 16 degree bend right in the middle. I used 1/8" aluminum sheetmetal to make it.

I like that radiator mount LilYellow but I think "dangerous I know" that my shroud might be different than yours.I need to go look to be sure but I don't remember my Shroud fitting on the the radiator like that.Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Is TBI shroud the same as CPI and SFI??I still have not installed my Efan.I am so lazy anymore lol.

The difference between the two is that your shroud bolts to the back side of the core support (CPI, TBI), where on the 2nd gens, they bolt on from the top. You could do something similar except you will need to bend it differently. I believe that the radiator has the same mounting height as the 2nd gen. I will look at my buddies 88 s10 and see what can be done.
well i got it in what a *****. but that flex a lite 210 fits perfect. so i opted for cutting the shroud since i dont have the facilities to make such a nice mount as lilyellow(looks like you did it in a brake). the wiring wasnt too bad but your defidently limited to space(i mounted the thermostat relay box on the back side of the fuse box. so heres a question i went for the option for the fan to stay on after the vehicle was shut off but it just keeps going on and off for about 10-15 mins. do i just gotta dial it in or should i kill it w\ the ignition and if so whats a good wire to tie into. another is im installing a 180 thermo what temp should i set the fan to kick on at 180? and one more thing what is your voltage reading on the dash when the fan kicks on?

Kill it with ignition.Or you will end up with a dead battery soon.
yeah thats what i decided to do thanks

Get the Flex-A-Lite Variable speed controller. Here it is.

Part# 31165-VSC
Attaches to or near the electric engine-cooling fan. Senses coolant temp. via the radiator core and sets fan speed from 60% to 100%, depending on built-in fan thermostat setting. Thermostat range: 155 - 220 degrees Fahrenheit. Allows greater control over engine temp: reduces charging spikes and current load on charging system. 25 amp max. load. Directs fan to run for 30 seconds after vehicle is turned off.

the fan keeps turning on because of heat soak. if you have the controller set to 180 the fan will run until the temp reches 180. when the heat from the engine and exhaust and such radiats to the radiator then it will raise the temp of the coolant and your fan will turn on again. it does this until the underhood engine components are colder than the setting on your adjustable thermostat. i let mine run as much as it wants and have never had a problem with dead batteries. it does that to fight heat soak.
