98 2.2 5spd no tach...can a panel with a tach simply be swapped out? sick of the shift light would like stock gauges with tach

Oh man this has been asked alot! So far nobody has given a straight answer. Somebody needs to try it and then do a full write up on the process.

still want the tach and can get a stock cluster with tach at junkyard cheaper then a tach from some other place.....if it was just the light i would have already done it....

I gave a buddy of mine one from my parts truck. He has a '99 that didnt have a tach and is a 4.3L. My parts truck had a 4.3L with the cluster that had the factory tach. He swapped them out and it worked perfectly. Only a few minor differances. His is an auto (factory tach would have read 6000 red line?) and the one i gave him was out of a 5 speed truck (7000 redline.). I still say check into it a bit more. Some wont work on others for some reason.
