Just found this problem.
When I put the gear selector into "1" it doesnt go into first gear right
away. When it does, soon after while accelerating it shifts into 2nd.
when it upshifts into 2nd it does so with a little clunk, or thud.
Sometime it goes into 2nd then back into first randomly on my
short journey. but never out of 2nd.

Last time I needed it in the winter it worked perfectly. Now that I
just tried it, it's acting up.

Some of you may also remember from a thread I made months
ago that sometimes I get a Thud from 2nd-3rd shift at low revs....
ands its not a u-joint.( tranny x-member? still didnt figure it out). Not
sure if it would have any relation to these problems

Tranny has about 25k since it was rebuilt in the summer of '03

Is it possibly the t.v. cable or something out of adjustment? I really
dont know much about it other than from observing other threads.
The lever does have a little bit of play in it when in gear, compared
to my moms '94 blazer which is the same thing.

any help would be great! thanks!

Just might be that tv cable. Don't know what tv stands for but I'm guessing that is the tranny linkage.

4L60E's are electronically controlled, so they don't use a pressure-activated throttle valve (TV). Far as I know the tranny will shift out of 1st gear when you go over a certain speed, and will not shift down into 1st until you're under that speed. Designed to protect the transmission from abuse and early failure.

then whats the point of having selectable gears/ gear ranges for engine braking?

it hasnt ever acted like this before... nor have any of the other s-series
Ive had in my family. :grumpy_12

It was driven alot just before i tried it and got that result....

are you losin traction when you put it down into 1st cause if thats the case then the electronic control on it will shift out to try to regain traction. same thing on all automatic t/as and camaros

Yep fluid is full & clean. For the most part everything else works fine

No im not loosing traction, I was trying it from a stop, &
from rollin slowly in 2nd shift it down into first.

I'll just have to wait and see what happens down the road with it...
