Hey guys i was wondering witch comp cams high performance cam would give me the best performance gain, and get the idle to fluctuate?

Well most guys here will say the 270AHR but I like the 266HR because of the 112* LSA vs. the 270's 114*. The 112* LSA will help with the top-end alittle more and it will give you that lopey idle you want. Keep in mind that with the Comp Cams higher lift setups you will need the heads machined. I'd also recommand getting their full valve-train packege.

One of the Crane cams should work with the stock seals. With the compete Valve-train from Comp Cams your looking at about $1200 plus machining.

will the 270HR work w/out machining or does it require the same?

Any cam of more then .470" lift will require the seals to be machined. Also most springs will need the pockets machined before they can be installed. One of the resaons I recommand a compete set is the Vortec springs are rated at a weak-ass 80 pounds, I'd want about 115 pound springs.

You MUST take the heads off and have them set up for the cam. Not doing so would be a waste.

Convert to adjustable valvetrain, rollers, valvejob, port match, bowl blend, heavier springs, retainers and locks, prolly 600-750. Then you have to buy a cam and pushrods. Another 350-400.

End result? ET reduction in the 1-2 second range depending on hiow much advantage you take of the bigger cam, e.g. exhaust, gears and stall speed.

In other words, well worth doing. If I had done it first to my Blazer it'd be doing mid 13's or better NA and high 11's on juice.

i'm guessing you need a cam for all that nitrous you'll be running? if you want i'll sell you my cam; good for blower and nitrous but you'll still need to do some head work.I'm selling the cam for a custom ground turbo cam(20+psi)

so then the whole operation would be around $1500?

If you do the remove and replace yourself it should be around 1000-1200.

Well i have done everything else my self, the drop/pullies/intake and what not but i have never replaced a cam, but my brother has on his small block 350, i one of my dads friends knows how to do it, so about the only thing we couldnt do is machine the heads. How much do you think that would go for? And while im in their i was thinking of a port and polish, and 3 way valve job... What would you say the total cost of that would be?

I don't know your area that well. I'd ask at the local track for a reputable performance machinist and give him a call.

Comp makes the tools to machine your heads for about $120, then all you need is a drill with a half inch chuck, the tools machine for valve seal clearence, and for larger springs.
