*snif *snif* tranny fluid??

Whenever Im going up these 2 big hills in my area, cruisin at 55-60 in 3rd
I smell something funny, smell of tranny fluid burning!! not sure if its leakin
on my exhaust or what. Just started happening in the past few weeks.
At first i had no clue, then earlier today it hit me.

I heard if they are overfilled there is a safety to make the extra fluid drain out?
is this possibly whats happening? when the fluid heats up, & expands from the load?

after it happened, I checked the fluid. Still pretty clean??
When I first pulled out the dip stick a little smoke came out,
(maybe because i had just gotten back from an hour drive).

'93 4l60-e , equipped with the factory tranny cooler.

Rebuilt in summer of '03, has probably 27k on it since rebuild.
Everything else with it is fine, except sometimes I get a thump
when it shifts from 2nd-3rd, & only 2nd-3rd, still never found out
what was causing that. And when its in "1" it shifts into 2nd gear.

Wonder how good the cooler is flowing. Stock original radiator?

I crawled underneath and found no signs of it leaking?

The tranny cooler I pulled off my donor 3/4 ton 96 Suburban is the newer stacked fin design. Small also. Keeps the 4L80E in the Chevelle cool all by itself.

Got any U-pull its' nearby? ;)

check to see if the cooler lines going into the tranny are leaking. I had a similar problem and thats what it was. I tried just replacing the o-ring seal but it didn't work i needed the whole line.

Nope. Cooler lines arnt leaking, The other day as it was happening,
I pulled over right away to try to see where it was coming from.
Couldnt find tranny fluid anywhere. I took out the tranyn dip stick
and a little smoke/vapor came out (after pulling a massive hill).
But it still looks pretty clean.....

FFW to today, while Changing my oil I figured Id check everything.
Happen to check the power steering, and the hoses were a little
wet with fluid, and there wasnt alot in the reservoir. It wasnt even
reaching the stick on the cap.

Is this maybe what I was smelling? maybe as Im going the power steering
fluid blows back on the exhaust manifold? ??cause there's not really any signs
of it being the tranny???

Weird Im coming home from work today as Im going up this mountain
where I usually smell something burning(but not anymore), then ses light
comes on. WTF???

Checked the code it esc, knock sensor. Cant be?, i repalced both less than a
year ago. Checked drivers side wire and everything, fine. Went to check the
passenger side sensor in back of the head.... I think I found my source of the
smell (see attachment)lol



LOL, I guess it got a little hot back there. I damn plastic smells just like
tranny fluid. Half the pigtail melted and it came loose! Causing the ses to
come on.... I stuck it backon there good, for now.

edit... on a side note, while in a hurry I must of burned myself about
****ing 30 times playing around trying to with the connector back there.
Trying to get it back on, main harness is in the way arg!
